A designer look that clients are absolutely loving and asking for in so many of my projects over the years, is checkerboard floors. Checkerboard floors stand the test of time. Whether you do them with white walls or go with a bold color, they are an absolutely gorgeous statement. For many of my full-service design clients, I have sourced beautiful black & white and cream & white marble. This often runs $20 to $30 a square foot and is a gorgeous statement. For other projects, including my own Airbnb in Stillwater, I had to find a look for less, which is why I went with Emser Sterlina porcelain tile. You can either use this product as a 12x24 and cut it down to 12x12 for smaller checkerboard patterns, OR, you can do larger checkerboards at the 24x24 size like I did in my own house. So, whatever your budget, marble or porcelain, you can have checkerboard floors in your next project. I’ve linked the Emser Sterlina budget option for you guys as well as some marble options if the higher end look is in your budget!
