SPRUCE MY SPACE: The Empty Walls Every week I mock up how I’d design rooms you submit and this living room has so much potential. The biggest issue with this space is that the empty walls are making it feel cold and uninviting. The first thing I’d do is add picture molding or some sort of wall treatment to the back wall, this will give the wall some more visual interest without overwhelming the space. I always recommend adding window trim and curtains to elevate your windows. Next we need to address the weird 90s fireplace… so many people struggle with the weird niches and chunky trim! I would remove/cover the fireplace so you have a blank slate, move the mantel up higher and paint with an accent color. If you’re able to get new furniture, I would recommend something softer and lighter so it’s not such a stark contrast. With a few simple changes, you can totally transform this room!
