And just like Christmas has come and past, how did your home fare the holidays? Thankfully after a weekend of organizing and rearranging, our toy room has returned to its new and improved order. Generally, I like to do a pre-Christmas toy purge, but this year I ran out of time. So I had to wait till the kids were occupied with there new toys to sneak into the toy room to remove a small number of toys at a time. Let’s say it took a lot longer than expected, but well worth the struggle.

Are you a DIYer or a crafty person?

I'd like to same that I am, but to be honest, I'm just someone who enjoys trying new things out on the fly. Take the nutcrackers in my son's room, for example. After decorating my little boy's room for Christmas, I felt like space needed something else, but I wasn't sure. One Hobby Lobby trip (that was originally for craft paper), the kids and I walked out of the store with nutcrackers galore. Initially, I was just going to place the nutcrackers on the dresser untouched but decided to try painting them instead. Many coats of paint later and helpful husband, and one incident with the dog chewing a Nutcracker. I bet you can't guess which one?! And we have a completed Nutcracker army. Sometimes it's the little things we do or create that can bring a space together and give it, its finishing touch. 🎄✨

How did you spend your weekend?

Since Autumn weather has taken over the Austin area, my little family and I have been out almost every weekend walking and biking all the trails that Austin has to offer. A few months ago, if you would have opened this closet door, you would have been shocked by the mess that lurked behind it. Located in the kitchen, this closet, I can only assume was meant to be a coat closet. With a single shelf and bar for clothes hangers, but instead, it acted as a junk closet. With board games, dog food, cleaning supplies, and other random items tossed in it! It was a mess, and I had no clue what to do with it. We don't need a coat closet and the closet's located pretty far from the main door, so a coat closet was out. But what we did need was an organized miscellaneous closet. We ripped out the former one shelf and bar that was in there. Fixed a few wall texture 'oops' and painted the whole closet, Pale Oak by Benjamin Moore. My husband built five shelves and brackets out of plywood. Once everything was installed, we decided to break the space up into sections. The bottom shelf and floor are for pet supplies: pet clippers, dog brushes, dog food, and the cat box. You get the picture. On the second shelf, I placed all of our office supplies, chargers, and miscellaneous backstock items for my purse. The third shelf holds water bottles for the plants and extra empty bins, just waiting to be used. Backstock snacks are on the fourth shelf, and those rarely used board games are on the very top shelf. And how cute is that cat door my husband installed!

Who’s the crafty person in your home?

In my house I’m the dreamer, but I would say my husband is actually the crafty one. Take this weekend for example. Last week chasing nostalgia made the cutest Halloween totes, that I (but in this case my husband) just had to recreate! One quick Hobby Lobby supply run and 5 minutes of my crafty husbands time and we have one ‘EEK-tastic’ bag!

How as your weekend? We had crafting weekend at home. My husband crocheted two adorable pillows for our daughter's room. The mini black pillow pictured above and a pink one over in her swing. We also gave the pink pillow from @worldmarket a five minute hack! 👻

All you'll need is a velvet pillow, I bought mine at World Market for $10! Felt, .39 at Joann Fabrics and fabric glue. I had some extra left over from another project, but fabric glue is less than $5 at any craft store. Cut out your letters, I used my circuit to help me out, but you could trace them on and cut them out. Place your letters and glue them on. A five minute 'Boo-tastic' pillow your kiddo is sure to love! I know mine does. ✨👻

With back to school starting in less than a week, I'm curious to know how many of you pack lunches for your children or do they eat school lunches?

Now I would hate to say I have picky eaters, but there isn't a chicken nugget that they wouldn't eat. So, putting together healthy meals can be quite a struggle! On top of that, we are attempting to cut out all unnecessary plastic wraps for lunches (i.e., food wrappers and ziplock baggies), by going with high-quality reusable products!

When it comes to items like sandwiches, sliced fruit, and veggie sticks, we will be using Goldilocks Wraps. Their high-quality bee wax wraps work great for wrapping up food or use them in the fridge in place of plastic wrap! Use code 'WHITNEY15' to get 15% off order!

When my daughter was in kindergarten, we had a plastic bento box that she would take to school, but over time, it became difficult to open and started breaking down before the school year was over. What is on your agenda today?

Today I'm going to be making the labels for the kitchen closet redo; labels give an organized space a completed feel in my mind. And there's no excuse for things to get misplaced if the bins are appropriately labeled. I'm also on the hunt for a one-time cleaning lady today. My aunt, who owns her own cleaning business along with my one-year-old cousin, is coming for a visit this weekend. I want to make sure my house is clean from top to bottom before she arrives! And three days after she leaves my in-laws are coming for a week-long visit. The next two weeks are shaping up to be a busy time for my little family and me.

Tell me about your entrway! What does it look like, does it have a closet or a place to put things?

When it came to designing my current home, one of the areas we struggled with was the entryway and lack of entryway closet. Where do you stick your purse, keys, and shoes? But with a little creative thinking, we decided to add three hooks right beside the front door to hang bags and coats. Besides that, we added my beloved elephant stand with a wooden tray on top of that to hold all odds and ends, like keys, chapsticks, and spare change. A mirror above the hooks and elephant stand allows you to check for any last minute makeup crisis or those crazy flyaway hairs. To complete the space, we put a bench for guests and kids to take their shoes on and off.

What's your favorite room in your home?

Happy Hump Day Friends! The week is halfway over, and sadly, we haven't made much progress on our kitchen closet renovation. Our original plan was to paint the space and add an Elfa system to the door. But after going to The Container Store and looking at our options, we decided the closet needed a complete redo. So we ripped out the one existing shelf, fixed the wall, and taped it so that I can paint tomorrow. But I didn't want to show you a picture of a gutted closet tonight, so I thought I'd snap a quick snapshot of my daughter's room. I love the way the evening light floods this room, and all of the butterflies scattered across the wall. It always makes me smile!

How many of you have husband's that remember or better yet volunteer to take pictures of you?

I know in my house getting my husband to a picture of me, and the kiddos can be quite a struggle. And when he does, its generally one or two super zoomed in images! Not exactly Instagram worth! But last week he surprised me, while we were out and about taking some pictures of my new Schwinn bike, he took some pictures of our son and me when I wasn't looking! Now I know I might be biased, but I think this is my favorite picture of Corb and me of all time! It seriously the cutest. And let's not forget the bike, of course.

What are your plans for the week?

Happy Monday, Friends! How was your weekend? On Saturday we went bowling with friends and stop by the arcade, but other than that we had a relaxing time at home. However, this week, we are going to be some busy bees! My husband has two days off this week, so I'm hoping to talk him into building the shelving unit for our office space! While I'm going to be work on a closet reno in our kitchen.
If I close my eyes, I can see a Container Store visit in my very near future, and I can't wait.

When your decorating or a designing, is there a specific item or items that you feel give a finished look to a room? For me, it always comes down to the textiles in the room. Two years ago, when we moved into our current home, the first room we decorated was our sons' nursery. We painted the room, changed out the lighting and flooring, added drapes, furniture, and a rug. The room looked finished, and I loved it! But a few months ago when we were renovating our little boys' closet, the cat knocked half a can of paint all over the rug, destroying it. With the rug destroyed, every time I walked into the room or past by I felt like the room was missing something. A certain coziness or warmth that only a rug can add. Last weekend we added a new star consolation to our son’s bedroom wall and these adorable little sunbursts to his reading nook. The finishing piece to this little corner! This weekend we are going to be spending all of our free time working on the murphy bed for the office. I can’t wait to show ya’ll the finished space. Heck I can’t wait to see the finished room. lol

In our house it changes weekly and varies between child. Right now Corbin is obsessed with his latest edition Scout. 🐶 In addition to making super cute plushies Cuddle and Kind donates 10 meals to children in need for every plush BUT RIGHT NOW ITS DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT DAYS. From May 25 – May 28th in honour of World Hunger Day. Instead of donating 10 meals for every doll sold, they will donate 20! 1 doll = 20 meals! For every print sold, they will donate 10 meals instead of five! This is one company and cause I think we can all get behind to support. 💕

Where do you store your shoes, purse, and keys?

Keeping my entryway clear of clutter is a constant struggle. Backpacks, lunch boxes, shoes, and random toys are always filling this space. So this summer I’m issuing a clutter free ban. Since school is over there will be no excuse for backpacks and lunch boxes. While shoes and toys need to go to there spots as soon as the kiddos walk in the door. Wish me luck!

Who’s Ready for Summer Break?

Today is my oldest child’s last full week of school! I can’t believe how quickly this school year has flown by. But to be honest I’m one those crazy mom’s who loves having their kiddos home all summer. The only downside is the mess that comes with summer break. Toys, toys, toys… toys everywhere! But this year I’m laying down the law and creating a chore chart/daily schedule to prevent such messes from occurring! How do you keep your home clean during the summer months?

I am excited to announce to everyone that on May 19th, I will be hosting a design class at Pottery Barn KIDS in Austin! I will be sharing tips and tricks for personalizing any space, and, of course, a DIY project or two. If you haven't yet, you should check out the simple changes I made to my daughters room for spring. It is pretty amazing what a simple change of sheets and some butterfly cutouts can do. If you are curious, the sheets are actually from Pottery Barn KIDS, and the butterfly cutouts were made with my new Cricket. Very easy and budget friendly

How often do you read to your children?

My husband and I are avid readers, so it was important for us to share that same love of reading with our kiddos. Every night, before bed we always take 10 to 20 minutes and read with our kiddos. Sometimes we pick the book, sometimes they pick the book, but reading time is my favorite part of the day! It might have something to do with the snuggles or laughter that is generally involved! Today I’m am sharing 10 books that we are reading this spring. Some of the books are new and some of the books are oldies but goodies. Whats your favorite season?

The windows are open, the birds are chirping, and the kiddos are outside playing. Spring is one of my favorite seasons, I love how everything is coming out of dormancy and growing. I love watching the kiddos playing outside with their friends after being cooped up all winter long.

PS. Take a close look at my daughters’ bed. Our Cuddle and Kind collection has grown by one more. Meet our new friend Ella, a magical unicorn. Ella would be the perfect addition to any Easter basket. In fact I need to hide her before my daughter gets home so she’ll be surprised Easter morning. 🌷🐇💕
