Rug Sizing Guide — Don’t Let the Wrong Size Ruin Your Design! If there’s one detail that can completely transform a space, it’s the rug. But it can go either way. The right one adds coziness and balance, while the wrong size can throw off the entire room. And most of the time? The issue isn’t the color or texture… it’s the size. Here’s a quick guide to get it right every time: 🪑 Dining room: • Your rug should extend at least 24” to 36” beyond the table on all sides, so chairs can be pulled out without catching on the edges. • Leave at least 12” of space between the rug and the wall to let the room breathe. Common sizes: 8’ x 10’ or 9’ x 12’. 🛏️ Bedroom: • The rug should start around the bottom two-thirds of the bed, leaving 24” on each side and at the foot of the bed. • Leave 6” to 8” between the nightstands and the rug. • For a queen bed: 8’ x 10”. • For a king bed: 9’ x 12”. 🚪 Entryway or hallway: • A smaller rug works here, but don’t push it up against the wall. Leave about 2” to 4” of space around it. • Avoid placing furniture legs on top, rugs need to breathe. 🛋️ Living room: • Your rug should anchor the furniture layout. Ideally, it should extend 6” to 18” beyond the sofa width. • At a minimum, the front legs of all major furniture should be on the rug. • Keep at least 12” of space between the rug and walls. ✨ Loved these tips?
