The way flooring reads is so dependent on lighting + everything around it and this white oak is the perfect example The bright white lighting and darker gray flooring in the store made the oak look much cooler and more muted than it actually is. Once installed, you can really see how much the surrounding finishes change the way the wood reads. In the first clip, the natural sunlight brings out that beautiful warmth in the oak. In the second clip against the white cabinetry, you can see more of the natural variation, the knots and warmth in the wood. The darker walls in the third clip add contrast, which makes the overall space look more dimensional, while the warmer wall paint color in the last clip pulls out those warmer undertones even more making the oak look richer 🤎 this is why i recommend you never look at a flooring sample on its own. You always think about how it will interact with the light, cabinetry, paint, countertops and other finishes in the room. A sample can tell you the color family you’re working with, but the space is what really tells you how that floor is going to feel 🤌🤍 so always take your samples home, look at them in natural + artificial light, and place them next to your other finishes before making the final decision.
