My patio umbrella used to tip over constantly… so I built a planter that secretly holds it in place. Inside the planter is a hidden bucket with concrete and a PVC pipe in the center. The umbrella slides right in, and the top is finished with soil and flowers so it still looks beautiful. It’s one of my favorite backyard DIY projects because it solves a real problem and doubles as decor. You can also use the same idea to hold patio lights. If you want a pretty patio without chasing umbrellas across the yard… this one’s worth trying. Design Notes: I used 1.5" PVC for the umbrella and 2" PVC with 2" x 2"x 9' for the patio lights. I also drilled three-quarter inch drainage holes in the bottom of the planter. LTKSeasonal LTKSpringSale LTKHome
