#mid-centurymod

By dwelloctober

this mid-century modern home features minimalist decor and earth tones.

despite being a foreclosure, this #dwelloctoberrealestate mid-century modern fixer-upper had great bones and was just in need of some TLC. the floor plan flowed really nicely throughout the house and all of the rooms were a great size, so #dwelloctoberstudio kept the original layout exactly the same. in the living room, the old leaking windows were switched out for modern black ones, the wall to wall carpeting was removed, and the original hardwood floors were refinished to showcase their natural beauty. a custom-built wood divider creates separation between the front entry and the living room and accentuates mid-century modern feel. #dwelloctober

sometimes less is more. #dwelloctoberstudio gave this fireplace a makeunder by removing the stone veneer and traditional wood mantel and replacing it with a modern, minimalist dark stone surround. the wood burning fireplace was converted to gas and features ceramic fire spheres. #dwelloctoberrealestate #dwelloctober

as part of our #dwelloctoberrealestate service, we worked with a client to find them an abandoned and foreclosed mid-century modern fixer-upper and then transformed it into their dream home through our #dwelloctoberstudio design service. this custom built banquette and dining table was a nod to the original built in bench. #dwelloctober

inspired by the original design, #dwelloctoberstudio reimagined this kitchen for modern life, using warm wood cabinets to capture the mid-century feel. we converted the window above the sink to a simple opening to bring light in from the sunroom, replaced the old linoleum with sleek gray epoxy flooring, and added a fun terrazzo-inspired statement tile backsplash. #dwelloctoberrealestate #dwelloctober

with its minimalist design and neutral color palette, this #dwelloctoberstudio bedroom is the perfect refuge from the chaos of everyday life. changes to this room were mostly cosmetic: we swapped out the busy floral wallpaper for clean white paint, whitewashed the original hardwood floors, and introduced texture through the vintage stone table, boucle throw pillow, and rattan lamp. this primary bedroom design is all about understated simplicity! #dwelloctoberrealestate #dwelloctober

every room in this mid-century modern fixer-upper impressed us with great bones, and the primary bathroom was no exception! the original layout was very efficient, so we kept everything in the same place, but enlarged the shower to accommodate a bench. our #dwelloctoberstudio cosmetic updates gravitated to a neutral palette with black hexagon floor tile, stacked white kitkat wall tile, a walnut wood vanity, and gold plumbing fixtures. #dwelloctoberrealestate #dwelloctober

our goal with the guest bathroom at this mid-century modern fixer-upper was to create a spa-like experience at home. #dwelloctoberstudio removed a defunct laundry chute in order to maximize space and accommodate both a free-standing tub and walk-in shower. hand-glazed green brick tile makes a stunning statement on the wet walls, while marble hexagon tile with brass inlays offers a subtle contrast on the floors. stay tuned for a look at the other half of this bathroom to see the vanity. #dwelloctoberrealestate #dwelloctober

talk about a glow up! this light-filled sunroom was formerly an overlooked three-season porch that transformed into one of the best spots in the house. #dwelloctoberstudios vaulted the ceiling and painted the room white to create an open, airy feel. new windows allow the natural light to stream in, while a rattan coffee table, velvet couch, and bouclé chair add layers of texture but still keep the space comfortable and inviting. #dwelloctoberrealesate #dwelloctober

our goal with this #dwelloctoberstudio exterior renovation was to peel back the vinyl siding and stone facade and take the house back to its mid-century roots. we knew we wanted to go dark with the color to create a dramatic impact and use vertical siding to give the illusion of height to this one level home. while the black siding was used on the majority of the house, we made sure to incorporate a bit of genuine wood siding to add some warmth and capture a key element of mid-century modern design. this exterior renovation proved to be a dramatic before and after, but as with the interior of this house, our main goal was to simplify and create a modern look. #dwelloctoberrealestate #dwelloctober

although this one level house looked small from the exterior, it was deceivingly large on the inside, with spacious rooms and a great floor plan. the front door opened into the living room and featured a floor-to-ceiling divider that created a separate entry area with a coat closet. inspired by the original fixture, #dwelloctoberstudio added a custom-built divider made from vertical wood slats to differentiate the living room from the entry, while still allowing the natural light to flow through. an unlacquered brass sconce by the front door also pays tribute to the house’s mid-century modern roots. #dwelloctoberrealestate #dwelloctober

the guest bedroom at this mid-century modern fixer-upper was a blank slate, so #dwelloctoberstudio started by brightening up the space. we removed the old wallpaper, opting for fresh white paint instead. next, we layered lots of different textures and colors with the furnishings, bedding, and artwork. the neutral color scheme makes the space relaxing and inviting, while a few strategic pops of color add warmth. #dwelloctoberrealestate #dwelloctober
