Hills I will die on as a personal stylist: these 3 pieces belong in every woman’s closet 👇

And I’m not talking about trendy pieces or investment splurges. I’m talking about the kind of foundational pieces that make everything else in your closet work better. Click the link to see exactly what they are — but here’s why they matter:

✨A great pair of jeans. Not just any jeans — the right pair for your body. When your denim fits well everything you put with it looks better. It’s the foundation of half your wardrobe.

✨A classic denim jacket. The layering piece that goes over everything, works in every season, and never goes out of style. If you don’t have a great one you’re missing a key piece of your wardrobe puzzle.

✨A slim elevated sneaker. The shoe that bridges the gap between casual and polished — dressy enough for a put together look, comfortable enough for a full day. The right sneaker changes everything.

All three are linked below — go see which exact pieces made the list! 👇

This is your sign: stop keeping pieces that have never fit you right. They're never going to magically fit differently. 👕

Day 5 of the Closet Reset Series and this is the one that needed to be said.

That dress you've had for years that's always been too tight in the chest. Those jeans that have never felt right on your body. The jumpsuit you wore once to an event and never touched again. The skirt that looked cute in theory but never actually fit.

You keep them because:
•	You spent money on them
•	You hope that someday they'll magically fit
•	You remember loving the IDEA of them
•	You feel like you're "giving up" if you let them go

But here's what's actually happening: every time you open your closet, you see pieces that don't work for your body. And that's a daily reminder that your closet isn't serving you.

Stop trying to force pieces to work. Stop waiting for your body to change to fit the clothes. Stop keeping things out of guilt.

Your closet should have pieces that fit you BEAUTIFULLY right now—not pieces you're constantly negotiating with.

You deserve clothes that actually work for your body as it is today.

💬 Comment RESET below to schedule a closet audit consultation with our team. 👇
You don’t need sky-high heels to elongate your legs— you just need smart styling.

1) Go high-rise. High-waisted pants or skirts visually lenghten your frame instantly.
2) Monochrome Magic. Wearing one color from top to bottom keeps the eye moving, creating a seamless line.
3) Pointed toes or nude tones. Both give the illusion of extra inches without sacrificing comfort.

Longer-looking legs, no heels required.
You know the closet is full.

You know you have plenty of clothes.

And yet… somehow, by Thursday, you’ve worn some version of the same five outfits again. 😂

The same jeans because you know they fit.
The same top because you know what goes with it.
The same shoes because they’re easy.
The same handful of combinations because you KNOW they work.

Meanwhile, there are dozens of other pieces hanging in your closet that you liked enough to buy…but apparently not enough to actually wear.

So every once in a while, you decide the answer must be shopping.

You buy a few new things. They get added to the closet.

And three weeks later?

Back to the same five outfits.

If this is you, here's the part I want you to hear as a personal stylist: you probably don't have a clothing problem. You have an outfit problem.

You don't necessarily need more pieces. You need to know how to create more combinations with the pieces you already own—and which few strategic additions would actually make your wardrobe work harder.

THAT is when a closet starts feeling completely different.

So before you shop again, try this: pick one piece you own but rarely wear and create three outfits around it.

Your next favorite outfit might already be hanging in your closet. 🤍

Save this if I just described your closet a little too accurately. 😉 And if you're ready for help turning all those clothes into actual outfits, head to the link in our bio to work with our personal styling team.

If getting dressed has somehow become the most mentally exhausting part of your morning… hi. 👋 You found us. 🤍

We’re Effortless Style, a Nashville-based team of personal stylists, and we believe getting dressed should be one of the easier decisions you make all day.

Not:
“Does this go together?”
“Are these jeans still in style?”
“Which shoes do I wear with this?”
“Why does this outfit look better on her?”
“Am I too old to wear that?”
…and definitely not changing five times before 8am. 😂

We work with real women every day to take the guesswork out of getting dressed—and we share a LOT of what we teach our clients right here.

Stick around for:
✨ Easy outfit formulas you can repeat
✨ Styling tricks that make an outfit finally click
✨ Wearable trends + how to style them in real life
✨ What’s worth buying (and what you can skip)
✨ Ideas for getting more out of the clothes you already own
✨ And plenty of permission to stop following all those outdated style “rules”

Because great personal style shouldn't require thinking about clothes all day.

The goal is to know what works, put it on, feel good and GO.

If that sounds like the kind of style advice you’ve been looking for, follow along. You found your people. 🤍

And if you want us to take some of that overthinking off your plate personally, you can learn more about working with our styling team through the link in our bio.

A day in the life of a personal stylist ☕🥐 Not every day is client appointments and dressing rooms — and this one was proof.

Met my friend Lauryn at Perenn for coffee and pastries. We're both business owners in the same women's group, and every so often we carve out time to talk shop, bounce ideas, and catch up on real life. Honestly one of my favorite kinds of mornings.

Then it was home to prep for a big event Dana and I had coming up later that week. The behind-the-scenes work that nobody sees is a bigger part of this job than most people realize.

Oh — and before I changed into sweats, I filmed my outfit for an upcoming post. Because when you create content for a living, no good outfit goes undocumented. 😂
If you just found us… hi 👋 You’re exactly who we’ve been looking for. 🤍

We’re Effortless Style, a Nashville-based personal styling team helping women get more out of the clothes they own—and feel really good getting dressed again.

Around here, we talk about the things we see every day working with real women and real closets:

✨ What’s actually worth buying (and what isn’t)
✨ How to wear the trends without feeling like you’re trying too hard
✨ Easy outfit formulas you can actually recreate
✨ How to make the pieces you already own work harder
✨ What might be missing when your closet feels “off”
✨ And how to build a wardrobe that fits the life you’re living right now

Because having great style in your 40s, 50s and beyond isn’t about constantly buying something new or following every trend.

It’s about knowing what works for you.

So if your closet is full but getting dressed still feels harder than it should…

You found the right page. 🤍 Follow along. We’ve got a lot to talk about.

And if you’re ready for more hands-on help, you can learn more about our personal styling services through the link in our bio.

An outfit formula is a proven combination you repeat over and over—with different pieces swapped in.

It sounds simple because it IS. But it changes everything.

Here’s what it looks like:
Formula 1: Jeans + Fitted Top + Blazer + Loafers

Wear it to work, coffee, errands. Swap the jeans (black, blue, white). Swap the top (tee, blouse, tank). Same structure, endless outfits.

Formula 2: Wide-Leg Pants + Tucked Tee + Heels + Belt

Works for dinner, dates, events. Change the pant color, swap the tee texture. Always polished.

Formula 3: Midi Skirt + Sweater + Sneakers + Denim Jacket

Your casual elevated look. Rotate skirts, swap sweater styles. Effortless every time.

Once you have 3-5 formulas that work for YOUR body and YOUR life, you stop overthinking. You stop shopping aimlessly. You stop staring at your closet feeling stuck.

Getting dressed becomes automatic.

✨ Follow for outfit formulas that simplify your life

Shopping for jeans can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack 🧵—but it doesn’t have to!

Here are the 3 things I always tell my clients before they start their search:
1️⃣ Know your rise: High-rise? Mid-rise? Find the one that flatters your proportions.
2️⃣ Focus on the fit at the waist and hips: A tailor can handle the rest, but these areas need to feel comfortable and supportive.
3️⃣ Check the stretch: A good denim blend should have enough stretch to move with you but enough structure to hold its shape.

Once you follow these, you’ll be well on your way to finding jeans that feel like they were made just for you! 💙

Ready to ditch the guesswork? Let’s chat about personal shopping and styling services to make denim shopping effortless.

Yep. I said cheaper. 👀

Because the number on the price tag doesn’t tell you what something will actually cost you.

Let’s say you buy a $300 jacket and wear it 100 times.

$3 per wear.

Now take that $40 top you bought because it was “such a good deal”—but you only wore it once before deciding you didn’t really love the fit.

$40 per wear.

Suddenly that $300 jacket doesn’t sound quite so expensive, does it?

This is cost per wear, and it’s one of my favorite ways to think about whether something is actually worth buying.

Before I invest in a piece, I want to know:
→ Will I wear it regularly?
→ Can I style it multiple ways?
→ Does it work with pieces I already own?
→ Is the quality good enough to hold up?
→ Will I still want to wear it a year from now?

Because as a personal stylist, I don’t think the goal is to spend MORE on clothes.

The goal is to spend BETTER.

We did a full deep dive on cost per wear—including how to calculate it and how we use it to make smarter shopping decisions—on the Effortless Style blog.

Comment COST below and I’ll send you the link to read it.
And save this for the next time you’re debating whether something is really worth the price tag. 🤍

A day in the life of a personal stylist 🧘‍♀️☕ Pilates, eggs and avocado, Starbucks, and then straight to a client's closet with Dana.

Our client wasn't even home — her husband let us in and we got to work. That's just how it goes sometimes. 😄

Dana and I have started tag-teaming styling sessions together, and honestly it's a game changer. Two stylists in a closet means more creativity, better problem solving, and we just flat out get more done. By the time we left, we'd pulled 45 complete outfits using pieces she already owned — mixed and matched with shoes and accessories for fall and early winter.

And then I went home and uploaded every single look to her online closet so she can see exactly what to wear and how to wear it, right from her phone.

This is what a styling session actually looks like. 🤍
Packing for three days without packing for three weeks. 😉✈️ #ad

As a personal stylist, I’m always thinking about versatility when I pack—fewer pieces, more outfit combinations, and everything needs to earn its spot in my suitcase.

For this trip, I’m packing it all in my @BAGSMART_official Getaway Carry-On with the Moss Tote for everything I want to keep within easy reach while I’m traveling. The goal: plenty of outfit options without the overpacking. 🙌🏻

Getting dressed used to feel easy. You knew what worked. You felt like yourself in your clothes.

But somewhere along the way, that changed.

Maybe your body changed. Your lifestyle changed. Your priorities changed. Or maybe you’ve spent so long dressing for your job, your age, trends or everyone else’s expectations that you’ve lost sight of what you actually like.

We see this with clients all the time.

If your closet doesn’t feel like you anymore, here’s where we’d start:

1. Identify what still feels like you.
Pull out 3–5 pieces you genuinely love wearing. What do they have in common? Think color, silhouette, fit, fabric and overall vibe.

2. Pay attention to what doesn’t.
Notice the pieces you consistently skip over—and ask yourself why. Too fussy? Too conservative? Too trendy? Just not your personality?

3. Dress for your actual life.
Your wardrobe should support how you spend your time now, not the lifestyle you used to have—or the one you think you’re supposed to have.

4. Give yourself permission to evolve.
You don’t have to dress the way you did at 30, 35 or even five years ago. Keep what still feels right and let yourself move on from what doesn’t.

Your style should be a reflection of who you are now—not who you think you need to be.

And sometimes rediscovering your style isn’t about buying anything new. It starts with getting curious about what makes you feel most like yourself. 🤍

Save this and come back to these four questions the next time your closet stops feeling like you.

You don’t need to know every trend to have great style.

In fact, trying to keep up with all of them can make your wardrobe feel more disconnected from you.

1. Trends don’t automatically work with your proportions or lifestyle.
Something can look amazing on someone else and still not make sense for your wardrobe.

2. Constantly buying trends creates a closet full of disconnected pieces.
If every new item requires completely different shoes, pants, or accessories, you’re not building a wardrobe—you’re collecting outfits.

Instead, choose 1–2 trends each season that genuinely appeal to you and ask:
→ Can I style this with what I already own?
→ Does it work for my lifestyle?
→ Does it feel like me?

That’s how you make your wardrobe feel current without starting over every season.

#PersonalStylist #StyleOver40 #FashionOver40 #WardrobeTips #EffortlessStyle
Here’s a simple rule I use with clients: shop for your real calendar first.

Before buying something, ask:

• Where will I realistically wear this?
• Can I think of at least 3 occasions for it?
• Do I already own shoes and accessories that work with it?
• Does it fit the way I live right now?

If you can’t answer those questions, put it back.

A beautiful piece that only works for a hypothetical life isn’t filling a wardrobe gap—it’s creating closet clutter.

Save this for the next time you’re tempted to shop for your fantasy life instead of your real one. 🤍

Influencers won’t talk about this because their job is to get you to buy what they’re sharing—whether it works for your body or not.

But here’s the truth: not everything works for every body. Not every style is flattering on everyone. And that oversized trend or low-rise jean they’re pushing? It might look amazing on them and completely wrong on you—and that’s not a YOU problem.

What makes something “”flattering”” isn’t trend-based—it’s about proportion, balance, and fit FOR YOUR SPECIFIC BODY. A-line skirts work magic on some women and do nothing for others. Wide-leg pants can elongate one person and overwhelm another. Cropped jackets hit at the perfect spot on some and cut others in half.

We don’t push trends. We teach you how to identify what actually works with your proportions, height, and natural shape—so you stop wasting money on pieces that look great on the hanger but terrible on you.

The goal isn’t to look like the influencer. It’s to look like the best, most confident version of YOU. 🎯

✨ Follow for styling that’s actually tailored to real bodies
A day in the life of a personal stylist 🥐☕ — except this one came with my favorite little helper.

Ryan tagged along for one of her last days before school started, and I honestly couldn't think of a better way to spend it. Chocolate croissants at a little French café in the Gulch, a run to Green Hills for returns and some sourcing, and then I fully put her to work. 😂 Dana and I have a big project coming up and 20+ packages weren't going to unbox themselves.

She hung every single piece without complaining. Honestly? Hire her.

Some days this job is client appointments and dressing rooms. Some days it's this. I love both. 🤍
POV: You’ve been inside enough closets to know that it usually takes about 30 seconds to see what’s making getting dressed so hard. 😂

It’s rarely that she needs more clothes.

It’s the pieces that almost work. The proportions that feel just a little off. The things she bought because she loved them—but never figured out how to wear. And a closet full of perfectly good pieces that don’t actually work together.

We see some version of this in closets all. the. time.

And the best part of our job? Watching the moment it all starts to click—and suddenly she can see outfits where she used to see overwhelm. 🤍
OOTD ✨ Oversized white button down + denim bermuda shorts + black thong kitten heel sandals. All from my own closet — linked the closest versions I could find. Everything shoppable below! 👇

#LTKdayinmylife #LTKootd #LTKOver40
We see this every single day with our clients. Your body changed—whether it’s 10 pounds, hormones, aging, life—and suddenly your closet doesn’t feel like home anymore.

Nothing fits the way it used to. The jeans don’t sit right. You feel frumpy in clothes you once loved. Getting dressed stops being fun and starts being frustrating.

And here’s what we know as personal stylists who are also women over 40: you don’t have to keep dressing the body you used to have.

If your closet feels disconnected from the body you have today, here’s where we’d start:

1. Stop using fit as a judgment.
If something no longer fits comfortably, that’s information—not a reason to be hard on yourself.

2. Edit what isn’t serving you now.
Move out the pieces that don’t fit, don’t flatter or consistently make you feel bad when you put them on.

3. Pay attention to what DOES feel good.
Notice the silhouettes, rises, lengths and proportions you reach for now—not the ones you loved five or ten years ago.

4. Identify the actual gaps.
Before you start shopping, figure out what’s missing from the wardrobe you need for your life today.

5. Rebuild intentionally.
You don’t need an entirely new closet overnight. Start with a few pieces that fit beautifully, work together and make getting dressed easier.

Your closet should celebrate who you are in this season of your life—not constantly remind you of who you used to be.

We help our clients through this process all the time, and one of our favorite things to hear afterward is: “I forgot what it felt like to love getting dressed.”

You deserve that feeling back. ✨

Save this for the next time your closet feels like it belongs to a past version of you—and follow for more practical styling advice that meets you where you are.
A day in the life of a personal stylist 🎬✨ — and this one was a little different.

Dana and I spent the day at Seventh Story Studios styling 24 women for a photo shoot. We pulled up with our cars completely loaded, got handed the keys to an entire wardrobe trailer — a first for us — and got straight to work. Unloading garment bags, steaming every piece, organizing every shoe, belt, scarf and accessory so that when the women started arriving, we were ready.

And then it was go time.

One by one, we worked with each of them — pulling looks, making adjustments, and doing our best to make every single one of them feel really seen and really special.

By the time we loaded everything back up, we were exhausted. But our hearts were so full.

So naturally, Dana and I headed straight to North Italia for a glass of wine and some appetizers. Because some days deserve a proper toast. 🥂
Consider this your official permission slip. 😂

If the outfit looked good, felt good AND made you feel like yourself…

WEAR. IT. AGAIN.

No one is keeping track. And even if they are? Who cares?

Somewhere along the way, social media convinced us that being stylish means constantly coming up with something new.

As personal stylists, we wholeheartedly disagree.

The goal isn’t to never repeat an outfit.

The goal is to have outfits you love enough to WANT to repeat.

So wear the jeans. Wear the blazer. Repeat the entire damn outfit if it was that good. 😂

One of the easiest ways to make getting dressed easier? Start building a mental (or literal) library of the outfits you already know work. And maybe take a picture this time so you remember it the next time you’re standing in your closet saying you have nothing to wear. 🤍
