This might sound strange coming from someone who literally shops for a living, but… Buying more clothes is rarely the first thing I recommend. The best shopping happens after you understand your closet. Before we shop for a client, I want to know: What does she actually wear? What does she already have plenty of? What pieces does she love but struggle to style? What does her real life require? And what specific pieces would make MORE of her existing wardrobe wearable? Because shopping without knowing those answers is how you end up with a closet full of individually cute things…and somehow still have nothing to wear. And here’s probably my biggest shopping rule: Don’t shop for pieces. Shop for possibilities. Before you buy something, ask yourself: Can I immediately think of 3 ways I’d wear this—with things I already own? If the answer is no, it might not be the amazing purchase it looks like hanging in the store. As personal stylists, our goal isn’t to help our clients own MORE. It’s to make sure everything they buy has a job to do. Buy less randomly. Buy more intentionally. And watch how much easier your wardrobe becomes. 🤍 Save this before your next shopping trip. personalstylist shoppingtips wardrobetips styleover40 effortlessstyle
