One of my favorite things about spring is swinging open the windows and going about my day feeling the breeze and hearing the chirping birds outside. It's been in the mid-60s here and I am loving it. A palpable shift in mood takes place in the spring – can you feel it too?

It is the season of grandest change – and how appropriate that our family is going through a big change too. Yesterday was the husband's last day at his corporate job and he will now be focusing entirely on our various investment properties. I feel "behind" on Instagram life – if that's even a real thing. (It isn't.) But I haven't had the mental bandwidth to put life into words lately. It's all just too much sometimes. But I'll tell you this: I've never been more grateful for house projects as I have these last couple of weeks. Nothing like a looming deadline to distract my anxious mind. That – and a good before and after to remind me just how far I've come and what I'm capable of. But really I just wanted to share with you this reminder: "It is not joy that makes us grateful. It is gratitude that makes us joyful." It'd be nice to start a project and, you know, actually finish it. 😅 But for now you can find me chipping away at one corner at a time one nap at a time...before being summoned for water/cuddles/yet another snack.

Take the living room for example. I want to paint the fireplace tile...DIY a giant 3-D abstract painting behind that sofa...find something to replace the mirror on the mantle...finally hang the chandelier...hang curtains... Oh and don't forget the new rug since I moved the cowhide to the office.

I guess what I'm trying to say is tune in next year to see it all come together 😅 because Lord knows at this pace it'll be a while.

P.S. If you zoom in you can see the floor is covered with styrofoam. Because toddlers + shipping boxes = fun time for all. 😜

Now that our time here is coming to an end, I look at this house a bit differently – like I'm trying to memorize its every corner and every detail and lock it away in my mind (and my phone) for safekeeping so that one day I can pull it out and show Mila the sweet little bungalow where she spent the first two years of her life. I'll never forget how I'd hold her in my arms and she'd study every photo on that wall and we'd have entire conversations about what she sees: "Daddy kissing Mila's feet" was one of the first sentences she ever spoke (in Russian) – and I never ever ever want to forget that. I spy the cutest little troublemaker. ☺️💗 The other day a person visiting our home for the first time commented how "it doesn't even look like someone lives here" and automatically I (and my OCD tendencies) felt defensive and then frustrated at feeling defensive for something that is essentially a good thing. Anyway...the space we live in can affect us both positively and negatively and having a clean and clutter-free home is essential to my sanity – especially at times when the rest of my life feels a bit chaotic and overwhelming. So yes. There may not be food in the fridge and I honestly cannot remember the last time I took a shower but by golly at least the house is clean (until a certain someone wakes up from her nap that is). 😆 What's your one "thing"? I came across an old phrase today – "magic in the mundane" and realized I've been missing that part of myself for a long long time. In my early adulthood I was quite the romantic...always looking at everyday things and seeing within them a complex world full of magic and beauty. Something as simple as the afternoon light streaming into the living room or the perfectly imperfect coffee stain on the table or the curtains moving ever-so-slightly in the early spring breeze sent my heart aflutter – almost as if I was in on some secret with the universe...a secret only a select few were privy to. Out of all the places to play in the house the outer hearth of the fireplace is definitely a favorite. 😅 She does this hilarious bit where if you ask her to sing or dance she will stand right in the center of that little stoop like it's her personal stage and belt out some "nah-nu-nah" nonsense while wiggling her hips and raising one arm. 😆 No clue where she gets it from but it's definitely a detail I never-ever want to forget. 🥰 Do you have a habit of writing down little quirks and hilarious things your babies do? Mom hack: Want to get your toddler to cooperate during photos? Give them a basket of blocks and say "NOW THROW THEM AS FAAAAAAAR AS YOU CAN!" Ahhh I feel like a new person with all the holiday decor finally put away – except I have zero chill and am already planning a couple projects for 2019 (you know...in case taking care of 2 babies under 2 isn't enough of a time commitment in the new year 👶🏼👧🏼) Obviously a playroom for Mila and a nursery for baby sister are on the list but we also have so many little corners and spaces that have been neglected (like that lonely dining room corner) and maybe just maybe 2019 is the year they finally get some love! 💗 Do you have any room renovations or design projects planned for the year ahead?
