Believe it or not, I’m charting new waters and getting in front of the camera for a change! If we’re being honest, it’s a little nerve racking for me. That may sound odd since I have no problem speaking on live TV or leading worship (albeit with slightly sweaty palms); but with still photographs, I just feel so awkward, and there’s this nagging little voice inside saying “who do you think you are?” Well, my name is Katy. I live in Wilmington, NC after 29+ years spent as a 4th generation Florida native. My husband and I started from scratch up here right before the pandemic and I had a lot of time to think about who I am, and Whose I am, my purpose here and how I can make an impact on my community, both local and long distance. The journey hasn’t been easy, in fact I’m still very much walking it, but I’ve been blessed along the way with my husband and family who bear my burdens with me and celebrate my victories all the same. When Justin and I opened up and allowed ourselves to be vulnerable during a difficult time several months ago, God blessed us with some amazing new friends, whom I can’t imagine not doing life with here. @stylinmamablog is one such friend/blessing! She took me out for my first ever content shoot last week, encouraged me through the process and drowned out that negative voice in my head while snapping these pics of me. So, I’m learning that there are incredible benefits to putting yourself out there, and want to encourage you to do the same. But also, I want to challenge you to reach out to someone who may be in need of your support, whether they know/admit it or not. Be the voice that makes a person want to pose for a photo in their favorite outfit and share it with the world. Words have power and support shares strength.
