Thought I’d take you along on the “friends and family” tour of my favorite new backyard plants. 🥰

After a lot of trial and error I feel like I’m finally figuring out what works for different spaces in my yard. This tropical plant is doing well so far on our dock where it gets indirect sunlight until evening.

The hibiscus plants require full sun to properly blossom and flourish and the majesty palms are also tropical plants that need protection from harsh UV rays, so they are doing well two years later under our covered dock.

Since we are in zone 9b, I do keep in mind that the planters need to be heavy enough to not tip over in the wind, but light enough that hubs (or I) can carry them to shelter during our cold snaps over the winter months.

P.S. After many questions about the knobbed planter, I found similar options and linked them. The majesty palm’s black planter is a ridiculously good deal - literally under $20 and super light to carry with a built in drainage saucer. What a WIN!

Nothing seemed to last long in our coastal climate. I didn’t want the upkeep of teak and after seeing friends struggle to keep the wood looking good, I know I made the right decision going with a high density material that is both UV and water resistant. And forget steel or anything powder coated. That’s rusting no matter what you do!

This is your sign to enjoy your space, whether it’s “finished” or not. Did you notice the rust creeping up the chair legs? The two unplanted Cordyline plants in the background? How about the unfinished landscaping against our shed?

It’s easy to pick apart all the flaws in our own homes and some of us tend to want to wait until it’s “fixed” to invite people over. But don’t wait. Life is to be lived now. Invite them anyway. Maybe they’ll even help you dig some holes and plant your shrubs while they’re at it. 😉 #truestory

Side note: I coated our newer dining chairs in a waterproof clear coat but it’s still no match for our Florida humidity and salty air. I’m thinking I can just sand and spray paint the legs of the white chair, even though the sun finally damaged the plastic decorative ties and those are now falling apart too! I think they’ve barely lasted us 4 years under a covered porch. 🫠

Everything hallelujah! I don’t know where I’d be without Jesus. Certainly not here. Practicing gratitude this morning.

Look around and find all the things you can be thankful for today. I, for one, am so glad the sun is back out! We had a dreary, wet several days and it was awful. I left MI because of seasonal depression and just wanting to live somewhere where I could enjoy being outside all year round. Mission accomplished.

My answer? “Kind of, but not that much.” 😂. I saw a backyard with basically a blank slate for renovating exactly how we wanted. We did spend five months having the interior renovated first, but it didn’t add to the barely 1700sq ft footprint of the house. And that’s okay, because who wants to sit inside when you’ve got all this outside? Not me! 😎🌴

Life changer!! I cannot even believe I dealt with a standard pressure washer for so many years! Cumbersome cords, trying not to get electrocuted around my pool, or gas - the smell, the nose, the refueling…

This wall-mounted pressure washer retracts like a hose when you need it and turns on with the flip of a switch. Soo much easier to grab it when I want to clean off a few cushions or blast away mildew or something spilled on our pavers. It no longer feels like an entire project.
