While the girls were in high school, I used to wonder… Should I tone it down? Should I dress more like the other moms? I never wanted to be “extra” in front of them — just present, supportive, and low-key.

At the same time, I still wanted to feel independent of motherhood — to hold onto the part of me that was just me. I’ve dedicated everything to the girls, but this one part — how I show up, how I express myself — I’ve always wanted that to be mine.

So a common question in our house became:
“Do you want me to dress more mom-like?”
Their answer? Always:
“No, Mom. Be YOU.”
