If your room feels unfinished, I can almost guarantee this is why… 👉 your curtains are hung wrong. This is one of the most common design mistakes I see — and it has nothing to do with your furniture or decor. It’s all about placement and proportions. The way you hang your curtains can completely change how your space feels. When you hang them too low (right on top of the window frame), you: • visually shorten your ceilings • make your windows look smaller • create that “builder-grade” look But when you hang them correctly — everything shifts. Here’s the standard I use in every space: → hang your curtain rod 8–12 inches above the window frame OR just below the ceiling line From there, your exact rod height will depend on your ceiling height — which is why I broke it all down in this guide so you don’t have to guess. Because once you get this right: • your ceilings instantly look taller • your windows feel larger and more custom • your entire room looks more elevated And don’t stop at height — proportions matter just as much: • extend your rod wider than your window (this lets in more light + makes windows feel bigger) • use enough panels (1.5x–2x fullness minimum for that full, luxe look) • make sure your curtains hit the floor (no hovering — ever) If you have tall ceilings (10 ft, 11 ft, 12 ft+), this becomes even more important. Short or improperly placed curtains will completely throw off the scale of your room. This is one of those small changes that makes a massive difference. Save this before your next home update 🤍
