A couple of you sent me messages about the knits in my capsule, namely, do I prefer my sweaters from Jenni Kayne or Babaà? Care: I try to share realistic outfits, but what's realistic for me might not be the same for you, and lifestyle is important! While I do have three cats who love to dig their little claws into my sweaters, I do not have children. I also have an in-home washing machine. I work a desk job. This all plays into what knitwear I buy. This cashmere cardigan is lightweight and delicate, so I have to wear, launder and store it carefully. But overall, I can get away with delicate knits. If I had shared laundry, or a very hands-on job, or yes, children, I probably would not have purchased this particular cardigan. It is simply not all that practical - even less so when you consider the cost. It must be washed on cold/delicate, in a garment bag, with special detergent (I use @thelaundress wool and cashmere shampoo). Babaà knits are more substantial and cotton is less “precious”, though it does still need to be washed in a garment bag with delicates detergent. Value: With Jenni Kayne, you pay a premium for the name (not that there is anything wrong with that, if that’s what you want to do!) With Babaà, you pay for the name to an extent too, but they come in at a lower price point, and there is more visibility into their production. To me, Babaà is a true ethical brand, while Jenni Kayne is more "elevated essentials" with work to do on transparency. Babaà’s cotton is also ideal if you have any skin sensitivities, so to me, Babaà wins on value. Style: Jenni Kayne has more classic silhouettes, and Babaà has a chunky, boho look.
