If you’re stuck on organization ideas—or if your kids think cleaning means shoving things in a closet—here are 3 ways I’ve optimized hidden spaces:

1. Pantry: I added two cabinets, a countertop, covered the wire racks with wood, and used a peel-and-stick backsplash along with some bamboo organizers. My kids still try to shove chips on the counter, but it’s easy to tidy up.

2. Under the Stairs: I turned this space into a “mudroom”—and when I say mud, I mean it. Cleats, backpacks, and chaos. It’s one of my favorite projects. My kids still toss their shoes in front of the bins, but they’re getting better at putting them away (daily reminders help 😆).

3. Small Reach-In Closet: My sons share a room and a closet, and I was constantly reorganizing. I added a closet system, lowered the rack and shelf to their height, and hung their T-shirts with the hangers backwards so they don’t fall off easily. So far, so good! 🙌🏼

Maximizing Space in my sons’ Small Closet

This was my first time using a ClosetMaid system—and honestly? I was impressed. It’s affordable, beginner-friendly, and gave us a built-in, custom look without the custom price tag. Full tutorial is saved in my highlights!

My boys share a room AND a closet... so I needed something practical and durable. And of course, everyone keeps saying: “The boys are just going to destroy it anyway.” 😅 Well—let’s see how long it lasts. A mom can dream, right?

What I Used:
* (1) ClosetMaid 4–9 ft W x 6.85 ft H Wood Closet System – on sale for $99 through July 31st!
* (5) 16” Drawers
* (2) Extra shelf boards
* (4) Side brackets
* (4) Alloy rod supports / end caps (optional)
* (1) Vinyl-wrapped wood closet rod (optional)

🛠️ Note: The included metal rod was too long for our narrow closet, so I swapped it for a wood one—it was easier to cut to size!

💸 Total Cost: $541.12
 If you skip the optional rod + supports (since the kit includes metal rods and brackets), you could recreate this setup for around $478.

Boutique Closet Glow-Up for Under $450! ✨

My daughter dreams of a walk-in closet someday, but with sky-high home prices and interest rates, that’s just not in the cards right now. So we gave her reach-in closet a little glow-up—and turned it into a boutique-style setup that made the whole room feel bigger.

She’s got a lot of clothes and shoes, so I skipped the drawers and added open shelving + hanging space to make everything visible (and easy to find!). No more lost shirts hiding in drawers or accidentally buying duplicates 🙃
