Here are some helpful tips when shopping for a good winter coat:

* whilst you don't have to spend a crazy amount of money, stretch to your maximum budget if the quality is justified - it will last much longer & you'll get more wear from it!

* Keep the colour solid and steer away from pattern so that the coat works with multiple looks

* double-faced wool or cashmere hangs better and looks more premium

* Navy and grey are a chic alternative to black & less harsh - whilst a camel or taupe shade offer a chic and elegant option

* Size up to accommodate heavier knitwear & layers as the weather gets colder
