When I was a design assistant at my first job out of design school, I made the mistake of flipping the length and width for curtains in a bedroom, and they had to be trashed and re-made. While it was a rooky mistake and one commonly made at the start of a design career, I still hold my breath when my curtain installer is hanging curtains and shades. Thankfully, I now triple check my measurements and haven’t made that mistake again. Maybe measuring and picking window treatments for your home is overwhelming! I put together this guide to help make sense of what you should put where. If you’re unsure of fabric, a solid linen with a tape or a grasscloth shade are always classic and beautiful in any room. If you have a shower with a window and need privacy, that is when I recommend an outdoor shutter that can withstand water and ensure you’re not giving your neighbor a peep show. Just remember to learn from my mistake…measure twice and cut once. WINDOWTREATMENTDESIGN designeradvice measuringwindows newtradhome LTKhome LTKFind
