What's my favorite thing about going minimal(ish)? Before I answer, think about this for a second... when you purchase bedding, for example, if you're choosing sets you "kindof" love, in the $50-$75 range, how many sets do you acquire and hang onto over the years? You start with a couple of options, then those start to wear out and you buy more, and repeat. Two things are happening here. 1.) We end up spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over the years, and 2.) We wind up with so much clutter. My first "big" purchase when we moved to our new house 6 years ago, was my Linen bedding. For someone who was notorious for picking things because it was cute and a good price, I realized when I packed to move, how much all of those "good deals" added up to be so much money, how much STUFF I had to pack, and how much I actually never used anyway. Perspective is everything, in every aspect of life. I changed my perspective to spending more up front on higher quality items, that I not only "kindof" love, but LOVE LOVE! It felt so strange to spend more than I ever had on bedding, but what was the outcome? I threw out all those old sheets sets and blankets, got a couple I can rotate between washes and 6 years later I love these even more! The more I wash this linen, the softer it gets and feels so good getting into bed. Over time, money was saved because I haven't purchased multiple sets. My linen closet isn't cluttered and is nice to look at when I open it up. Visual stimulation helps me enjoy even something as small as opening a closet, and when I enjoy my space, I look forward to being in it every day. I should add that I pre-planned to do this prior to moving, which gave me time to request gift cards from @Anthropologie for all birthdays, holidays, etc. leading up to moving. I set my intention on splurging for something I could enjoy for a long time, and found ways to cover that splurge without it all coming directly out of my pocket. If you're not in a position to make the switch, consider something like I did. The wait is worth it! LTKRefresh LTKstyletip LTKhome
