Career advice I’ve learnt since graduation. Wake up at 5am & take a shot of wheatgrass. LOL. Just kidding. My experience of the corporate world is that it’s one big game, learn how to play it. 1. Surround yourself with those who you respect & learn from. Avoid (as much as poss) the ones you can’t. 2. Learn how to manage upwards & keep close those with who will call you out if you step out of line. 3. Just because you work with them doesn’t mean you can trust them. Avoid gossip / politics & do not tell information to your colleagues that you wouldn’t tell your boss. 4. If the people 1+ above you on the ladder aren’t happy, quit. 5. Develop habits and work ethic early and the rest will get easier. 6. Discipline over talent, any day. 7. Don’t take decisions personally. All businesses view everyone as replaceable. You are not special. You don’t owe your employer anything and they don’t owe you anything. 9. Chasing money will make you unhappy but money means more freedom which is in pursuit of happiness. Find balance. 10. People don’t leave companies, they leave managers. When one door closes, another bigger door always opens - I promise you that. career corporatelife londonlife
