Whether you’re building, renovating, or just refreshing a space in your home, cabinets are often a major design component in a space that we spend a lot of time carefully choosing. The hardware you select is the finishing touch that really impacts the overall design, so don’t overlook planning the style, scale, and placement of your pulls and knobs. This is a detail you’ll see and touch daily and can either elevate the design or cheapen it. For a modern, bold design I personally like to stick to the 1/3 rule at a minimum for scale. This means that the pull length is approximately one third the width of a drawer or height of a cabinet door. For more traditional designs two smaller pulls, spaced evenly, equaling at least 1/3 of the drawer width works well. We have a mixture of 32” and 23” drawers in our kitchen and chose 11 3/4” and 9 1/4” pulls. Our mudroom pulls are 19 3/4”. With our cabinet design we chose to mix metals with matte black hardware on our white oak cabinets, and honey bronze on our dark cabinetry for interest and contrast. I fell in love with the knurled detail on the pulls we chose for an added layer of texture and depth. LTKStyleTip LTKHome LTKSaleAlert
