My Beauty Buys: RETINOL. I’m launching My Beauty Buys (hurrah!) with the powerhouse A313 Vitamin A pomade. Vitamin A is just a fancy name for Retinol. WHY: A313 is a cult French pharmacy find that’s unique in texture - a thick oily balm - and affordable in price. When you want results, you want retinol; a collagen boosting, fine line smoothing, skin hydrating miracle. But remember, less is more with this product. HOW: If you’re new to retinoids DO introduce it gradually - a few nights a week at first. DON’T use very much, a pea sized drop is truly enough - on your forehead, cheeks and face (avoid the eyes and neck.) A little bit of this goes a very long way (I bought my first tube in Paris and it lasted me eons) and too much can itch like a bitch. (Trust me, ahem.) DO wear your SPF daily. WHAT ELSE: You might find retinol feels itchy or irritating, so you can apply moisturiser after if needed. Sometimes you’ll experience a bit of ‘purging’ - blemishes (🙋‍♀️) or peeling - which is literally debris coming to the fore thanks to increased cell turnover. Persist, purging is usually short lived and worth it. Any spare, use it on the back of your hands. RECAP: pea size, on dry skin, start slowly and work your way up.
