Children’s sensory needs range from low to high. And every child’s needs are unique to them. This is how I support my high sensory seeker:

My son is a high sensory seeker. He enjoys jumping, hopping, bumping into things and hanging upside down. He is never sitting still and constantly has bursts of energy.
So much so that it’s hard for him to calm and regulate his body to sleep or focus on tasks. I noticed that he warrants a lot of physical sensory activities to let his sensory threshold and regulate himself.

If you have a child with similar behaviors I highly recommend jumping on a trampoline following a YouTube kids trampoline workout.

Other ways to support: a high sensory seeker:
✅Provide activities that stimulate the senses, such as:

✅Movement: Activities like swinging, climbing, jumping, and running.

✅Pushing and pulling: Activities like pushing a shopping cart, carrying groceries, or pulling a wagon

✅Deep pressure: Activities like rolling a therapy ball along the child’s back

✏️Fun fact about me before becoming a school psychologist I actually considered becoming a preschool teacher. During my college years I worked with JumpStart and taught in pre-K classrooms in NYC. I loved it so much but ultimately my journey took a different turn.

Now that I am on an extended maternity leave from work I decided to homeschool Ezra. And I’m loving it!

I wanted to make sure we continued to foster his bilingualism and therefore purchased Spanish/English materials. I never thought I would have this opportunity to educate my son at home so I feel incredibly blessed that this time has been gifted to us. As a psychologist, I’m always looking for toys that are developmental appropriate or will encourage my children to meet developmental milestones.
