The only picture we got of all 5 of us on vacation at South Seas Resort in Captiva. We chose to stay here based on a recommendation from friends who were going the same week and I can never vacation alone again. Game changer. We booked the room almost a year ago as it was the most reasonably priced 2 bedroom at a “luxury” resort. I used quotes because it’s expensive-ish and nice but I wouldn’t say it’s luxury IMO. Things we loved: Room was spacious, kids had a blast, weather was awesome, the beach was gorgeous + very spacious, you didn’t have to worry about getting chairs at pool or beach but yes, some people were trying to save pool chairs but it wasn’t a problem and you couldn’t save them before 9 am, it was a really great vacation! We saw tons of dolphins, drank lots of margaritas and loved every sunset! Things we didn’t love: Tommy was an inch too short for the water slide and was super sad he couldn’t use it (lol), food and drinks were fine, could be better/could be a lot worse! Resort was 90 minutes from the airport which made our days of travel LONG. The bed linens did not match the price we paid per night. Coming off a night at the Boston Harbor Hotel, the sheets felt 2 star hotel at best. We stayed in the Land End Village so I think it was a timeshare unit perhaps??? I can’t believe I’m publicly complaining about sheets on vacation given the current state of the world but people asked for a review… You’ll want to rent a golf cart if you go and try to make dining reservations. Reservations are not a must but were helpful. The staffing issues were fine, yes they are short staffed but it was not problematic at all. Sometimes things took longer than others but we were happy to wait. Most of the staff was very friendly and attentive. The resort was recently bought so I would expect some upgrades very soon. I would absolutely go back! I’ll share a longer review on my blog later this week. My only hesitation is how far the resort is from the airport and how long of a travel day it was with such young kids.
