Deodorant is something we use daily—right near our lymph nodes and breast tissue. That’s why ingredients really matter. Many conventional formulas contain aluminum, which blocks sweat glands to prevent perspiration. The problem? Sweating is a natural and necessary way for our bodies to release toxins. While research linking aluminum to breast cancer is still inconclusive, this is one of those swaps that just makes sense to me—easy, accessible, and with the potential to lower my risk? I’m in. Other ingredients to avoid: • Fragrance/parfum (usually a mix of undisclosed chemicals) • Phthalates (can disrupt hormones) • Parabens (linked to hormone mimicry) • Triclosan (potential thyroid disruptor) But switching to a safer deodorant can be a bit of trial and error. Everyone’s body is different. Be mindful of what you might be sensitive to—baking soda and essential oils are common culprits. The good news? There are lots of great formulas out there to suit your unique needs. Over the years, I’ve tried dozens of brands and these are some of my faves (+ a couple I have on my list to try). My go to is Little Seed Farm charcoal - it seems to work best for me and the jar lasts me many months (yes, it’s a cream you apply with a little spatula or your finger, but once you get used to it, it’s not that weird). If you want to be really crunchy, try rubbing limes on your armpit and report back 😆 Instead of trying to stop my body from sweating, I’ve shifted my mindset: our bodies are meant to sweat. My focus is now on supporting the natural detox process and helping balance the bacteria in my underarms, not blocking it. To support the transition: • Use a charcoal or bentonite clay bar soap • Try a weekly armpit detox mask • Stay hydrated and reapply as needed • Choose gentle formulas if irritation pops up You don’t have to do it all at once—but this swap is a simple, powerful step toward lowering your everyday toxic load.
