SHELF STYLING 101: styling shelves can be daunting especially when you have large built ins. Here are my no fail tips for getting started, but remember these shelves can evolve and change over time so if something doesn’t feel right swap it out with other items until it does! 1. Always start with completely empty shelves, even if you’re just rearranging for the season or adding a few new pieces 2. Place large items first - frames, vases, baskets, etc. and balance them throughout the shelves 3. Start layering in your medium pieces - books, smaller frames, trays. Step back every once in a while to look at the bigger picture. If something doesn’t feel right remove it for now and you’ll probably see where it fits in later 4. Add in smaller decorative objects last, making sure to keep the balance of height, color, and tone 5. Pay attention to scale. Make sure you place appropriately sized objects in each space. For example, I placed a large frame in the top left large space and then layered in front of it. It wouldn’t look right if I only had smaller decorative items in such a large space right?
