How nice is it to get back into wearing blazers after a winter of big oversized coats ?

Loving barrel jeans & sharp shoulder blazers at the moment !

A grey blazer like this (last season @cosstores_au ) is what I reach for when I want a change from all my neutrals. As chic as a camel blazer and as versatile as a black blazer, ( but not !)
A white rib tank is perfect under a blazer:
It freshens up the grey for spring : You want a higher neckline and it should be neat but not too clingy.

Grey is going to be huge next winter with lots of choc brown . Invest early get seasons of wear.

 They’re the core of every day style.
The foundation of your wardrobe. The great thing about white jeans is that they are as casual as blue jeans but just a little bit more jooshier. When blue denim looks too laid back , white jeans look more dressed up and polished. You need them in your life !
 So many women think they can’t wear white jeans. Shut the front door, it’s time to start. They actually look good on any size or shape.  
In terms of which style: know your strengths and weaknesses but keep one thing in mind: Loose jeans are much cooler, easier to carry off than tight jeans. Every single time.
Remember don’t compromise looking modern by trying to look slim. You’ll end up looking neither.

I’d better introduce you to the BEST jacket:
it’s (appropriately) called the Rain chaser jacket @lululemonausnz , it’s soo good this is the second one I’ve nabbed !

What’s to love?
The colour !
I’m having a khaki (army green !) moment as this colour works back with all neutrals, choc brown, navy and denim. Summer and winter.

The cut !
It’s a relaxed cropped cut with room to layer a knit ( I m wearing large but size down if you prefer a neat cut). Oh and it’s got a cinchable hem which means you wear it loose or pulled in.

It’s waterproof !
It’s seam-sealed ( thank you 🙏 @lululemonausnz ) with perforated areas. I’ve been wearing under coats with the hood hanging out ( good to cover hair when you can’t be bothered with an umbrella!).

Of course it doesn’t have to be raining to wear a rain chaser jacket : it is a cool sporty jacket you can wear all sorts of ways.

I’ve tossed it over a white cotton top & favorite daydrift pants both @lululemonausnz ( do you have these pants ?! Add to cart stat , they are faaabulous).( IYKYK)
When it’s freezing out there try the rain chaser jacket @lululemonausnz over a khaki knit with casual pleather leggings.
Add white shoes and you’re good to go !

For exercising or just running errands I’ve been wearing the jacket with leggings : obsessed with the Align superhigh in the colour lava cake ( sooo soft !) or just throw the rain chaser jacket back with matching olive green leggings.

A barn jacket !
(This men’s @uniqloau , now on sale , link in stories ) You might call it a safari jacket or a field jacket. Maybe a utility jacket. I call it cool! That’s because the unstructured utilitarian shape feels new. Looks new. Looks casual yet sophisticated. Gives the air of nonchalance ( this is good!).
What’s to love ? It’s not a blazer, a crop trench or a parka. ( though it almost is!) But it works just as well. It is casual yet never boring. it’s almost a wear year round jacket: works so well with the laid back Australian lifestyle. Totally versatile you can throw a barn jacket with a chic pencil skirt or slouchy leather pants.

Styling tricks:

* It should have pockets, it might have a cord collar , leather trim or a funnel neck. It needs to be big !
 * Layer a lighter colour knit under the jacket ( don’t default to black !)

* Wear a barn jacket with a heel, boots, white mules/ kitten heels. The contrast of high low that makes it interesting & cool.

* A chic designer bag in brown works back with the shoes but not necessarily matches everything.

* This is men’s size large ( they call it a blouson @uniqloau ) : LOVE IT. Make sure it’s oversized and BIG , that what makes it fashiony. Needs to make a statement. As I always say you don’t want to look like the Queen in Balmoral!

Jetting off on a Euro summer holiday?
You need to think about your travel wardrobe. The trick ?
Plan your wardrobe around colours first: You want colours that go together = versatile.
Colours that love each other ( like you and your family after a 24 hour flight).
Colors that looks expensive but don’t have to be. That means what I call “expensive” colors like Black, white, neutrals, brown, grey and metallics. A soupçon of blue and lots of denim.

The aim: look chic, effortless and have lots of different outfits.
Don’t worry it’s easy.
There will be no breathing into a paper bag as everyone waits for you to get dressed.
Why?
Because you will take photos of all your outfits before you jet off. So you can cleverly refer to your secret look book before you head out . That means you can nonchalantly throw on your outfit in 5 minutes flat. And everyone is happy.

My best advice: only pack things you LOVE wearing. Never pack pieces you think you might wear. Because you won’t.

Love my new pleather jacket in delicious brown @netaporter : how it works with casual jeans but also with skirts & boots.

But I have literally lived in leather pants in winter for years ( my friends laugh because they know that’s what I’ll turn up in !) . I’ve also been loving all sorts of pleather skirts ( A line & pleated) as well as in a few pleather shirts too.

Let’s talk coats!
They’re the linchpin of your winter wardrobe.

What to look for ?
* A coat that’s long. Mid shin. Longer. Knee length?
That length is so out it’s about to come back in. (And I’m not joking !)
* Oversized. Go up a size. I always do. An inexpensive coat always looks alot chicer & more expensive if it’s a generous cut.
* It can be single breasted or double breasted: just make sure it up covers ‘the situation’. Meaning ? Make sure it sits across your front even when it’s undone. Because who wears a coat done up (except in London mid winter ?)
* Look for a coat in a versatile FiFi approved colour. You know what that means : Camel, navy, grey, brown, white , khaki , furry, suede or even leather.
* Walk past black. It’s not going to give you vava voom, bang for your buck.
* Black is going to bring everything down. Can be so hard to style, have to try really hard with a black coat, it has to be VERY exaggerated to look cool.
* Everybody keep calm: if you have a long black winter coat (and I do have a few!) then keep wearing them.
* Surround a black coat with tan, white and camel. Fabulous boots. Cream knits. Light wash denim. Instant chic. Default to white under there.
* Remember big shoulders are happening. This is great in a coat. Makes a statement. Looks edgy. Gives shape and drama. A more tailored coat is looking new but it’s still got to be BIG and LONG. And a cape is ALWAYS fabulous.
