I confirmed something I already knew this weekend. Cleaning and organizing are two VERY different things. One I loathe and one I love. Can you guess which is which? 🤪 It got me thinking though about how no matter what investment you make, everything takes maintenance, whether you love it or not. You can’t just get your haircut and then your done for life. You can’t buy a cute outfit and only wear it. You have to wash it every now and then. You can’t have a house and never clean it. And you can’t invest in organizing and never tidy up after yourself. Getting organized is crucial, but it’s only a step. If you never discipline yourself or your family to maintain the systems, the systems won’t work. Getting organized should be your push in the right direction of maintaining a tidier lifestyle. Hear me out, I did NOT say I’ve never cleaned my floors. 🤪

I’ve always preferred a swiffer or a wet/dry vac, I’ve even hand scrubbed my entire kitchen floor before. It just seemed easier and less messy to me.

It wasn’t until my “Monica moment” when I found myself cleaning my vacuum that I considered surely mops had gotten more advanced than from what I remembered.

Today I picked up this @ocedarclean mop system that gives you clean water with every rinse. I went so crazy that I even mopped my garage. It was so quick, easy, and ridiculously satisfying. This might be the one cleaning task that I don’t hate.

At first glance, this closet system was beautiful, but as a professional organizer, I look at the functionality of a system - and this just wasn’t it. There was so much wasted space between the cubbies, the such a missed opportunity, not going all the way to the ceiling.

When I see a system, I’m looking for empty space and how we can maximize so that everything is VISIBLE 👀 and ACCESIBLE 🫳🏻. This is the ONLY way to create a system that is maintainable.

If you look closely you will see we solved the problem by breaking up the cubbies with free-standing shelves that look built-in and cube systems on the top of the closet to maximize height.

Two things made the biggest difference in this closet:
Shoe storage and hangers!

If items don’t have a home then how can you ever put things “away”? In this case the client did not have enough shoe storage and shoes were piling up in the floor.

By switching out hangers and adding a hanging bar we were able to create space for some much needed shoe racks. Sometimes you just need the eye of a professional who can find empty space, the right product, and a place for everything!
