I bought this vintage Mersman table for $30 on a rush to get to somewhere else and forgot to confirm payment method with the seller. I got there and he didn’t take any electronic methods of payment. So I drove back up the road to the KFC and got a Diet Coke and $30 cash back. I guess I’d rather do it myself and subject my dad or any of my friends to my rug moving whims. If you have a partner who will happily replace a rug and carefully line up with a rug pad with you, wow, hang onto that one!
Seriously though, I’m very excited for this rug from @rugsUSA, a classic braided jute rug that is super soft and all natural fiber. I see these in the old house design books, and they had so much quality and character. Worth the sweat of this change!

I am so stoked about my new rug and using this opportunity to remind you that, despite what you see on the design shows, you *always* need a rug pad! Drives me crazy they don’t show that step on installs. A rug will slip around and get damaged faster without a proper pad underneath. And it’s pretty easy to cut them to the exact right size. I have been slowly swapping out my target decor purchases of previous years for higher quality pieces that work better in my home. I had multiple pairs of target curtains literally pinned together on the front window to make them double wide, and none of them were quite long enough. When we first moved in, I took down the original chandelier in the dining room and replaced it with something modern. But I still had it and the living room one in the basement. I put them back up with some new shades recently. But I wanted a coordinating sconce for the fireplace wall! These from @rejuvenation are perfect. I definitely have a 2024 decorating sensibility, but I like giving a nod to the style and quality that this house would’ve had in 1937.

Recently spent several hundred dollars on hydrangeas hoping Sunday soon I can grow some anywhere near as epic as my mom’s. Picked these the other day and I’m going to let them dry out in their vases and they’ll probably last a year or two dried. 😍
Spending money and time on plants is new for me, but I’m flexing some new muscles and hoping to add some serious welcoming charm to the outside of the house next spring.

Warm lightbulb lamps on a timer, pillows fluffed just the way I like, a working thermostat, and an evening to myself on the couch. I’m planning some changes to this room, but I’ve been recognizing lately how much I LOVE my home even though it isn’t exactly the way I want it. So much gratitude. And also, adulting. Absolutely preferring a night in here sometimes! The fall vibes might have something to do with it too.

Todays agenda: get a little work done, returns, lunch date with a friend, head to another friend’s house and help her pick out tile for several bathroom renos, probably have dinner on my couch finally finishing season 3 of Ted Lasso. You???
Been fantasizing about replacing this couch but the kids love it… Lucy said the other day it’s her “favite wed towts” (red couch). I think it’s here to stay anyway but I guess I’m stuck! So sweet but also inconvenient when the kids get attached to the experiments I bring in 🤪❤️

Took down Halloween and letting the space be bare for a while before I put up Christmas. It’s nice to take a breath. It’s exhausting and overwhelming to see full on Christmas at every store all of a sudden. But I’m just letting it be background ideas and inspiration, nothing I need to implement until I’m ready. We don’t need the pressure!

Grateful for a home that I love to look at even when all the kids stuff is added. It’s taken me a long time to get to that point with this living room, but when I walk through on a quiet work from home day, I just feel grateful.
Also, I’m headed to a conference in CA for work for a few days and I’m definitely feeling those pre-trip jitters I get since I am not used to switching up my routine! Worry about missing the kids and being go-go-go for three days in a row. I’m sure it will be fine but I get anxious. Anyone else? Any tips?

I never did get out any fall decor. Otto told me next year he wants some skeletons. I’ll keep that in mind 😬
But… I am doing something totally new for our tree this year and I might start a little early! Anyone planning to skip Thanksgiving decor and just go straight to Christmas this year?

Resolution: Drink more wine and watch more TV. Ha! Last night I hung out here on the couch instead of working till 10:30 like I’ve been doing most nights lately and guess what, it felt great and I slept better. Been a crazy few weeks/months! I love my job but I know it’s not good for me to work all the time!
P.S. I’ve put the rug back since taking this photo. Thankfully potty training went great!!!!

It’s a good thing you can’t tell temperature from photos because I think it was 89° in here at one point last night. Our air conditioning is broken and it’s been a hot week. Thankfully they are fixing it today, for only $1,900 😬😭

Pilling has haunted me most of my life. 😂 I am so happy to have found this solution!! Tips for using this shaver:
- Get some good rechargeable to go along with. If you’re doing a whole couch you may run through the first pair!
- It is kind of slow for larger areas but if you’re like me, small children will come running and want to help when you start. Otto is actually pretty good at it!
- Clean the parts (handle fuzz catcher and front guard that pops off) between uses to keep them from getting dusty and gross looking!

This room is a work in progress (as you can tell from my elegant side table), but pretty excited that I finally have a curtain solution. Only these two panels are up and I haven’t steamed them yet, but I know it will work now! I’m excited to have rings instead of clips or rod pocket, and it meant I didn’t need the longer length curtains and then hemming them. You can see both my “curtain hack” and “curtain fail” story highlights if you want to see what I’ve been trying!
I had a friend request a blog post for my curtain hanging tips… I *almost* feel qualified. Any questions you guys have on hanging curtains?

I’ve been really enjoying this spot (temporary curtains and all) and leaning into the pretty pink. My mom got me that will throw for Christmas and it is just delicious and so cozy. But I just moved everything around to make way for the new couch, we are finally implementing my two couch vision! Don’t know where this chair will go! Shared more in stories.
I will share more about how I had planned to order a custom couch or two, but it just hadn’t worked out yet. Really appreciating opportunities for ready to ship or secondhand upholstery right now! This chair is a great example, great quality but ships way faster than custom. Comes in several colors.
