I have been scratching my head forever to figure out what blankets/quilts to do for Otto’s bunkbed. We’ve had a couple warmer evenings where the comforter is too warm so I think I’ve got to figure it out soon. Red stripe? Dark red? Darkish blue? What would you do and have you seen such a product available?!

This was a Christmas break project and it took a little longer than I hoped because of the tricky knobs and feet, and I should’ve just ordered that perfect English pine look wax in the first place! What do you think, too much work? Honestly, normally I would say yes, but it is the perfect size for that spot… 🤪

Lucy was seriously so excited when she saw her new bedding, she jumped on her bed and rolled up in a ball and squealed, “I love it!!” This room is pretty magical already, but it was missing a cohesive bedding palette, and I love this combo from @riflepaperco and @thecompanystore! This percale sheet pattern is called Strawberry Fields which is so perfect for my sweet little girl who loves girly things and would eat a whole pound of strawberries every time I buy them if I let her. 💕

I’m still working on Otto’s bedroom but for now I found him the cutest sheets and am playing with lots of blues in here. I’m a white sheet person but for a little boys room that just didn’t feel right. This blue and white gingham is so cute! The duvet cover has a little wave pattern. Both are from @petiteplume, they have a couple of new bedding patterns just out recently too.
I am still tickled about some of these other unique pieces in Otto’s room too! And I’m thinking of replacing those baskets with a dresser, what do you think?

Honestly I’m pretty worn out on the DIY projects, but when I’m able to make something special like this for my daughter I’m grateful I have the skills and supplies to do this with relatively minimal disturbance to my life. 🤪 Although it did take some coordination and help from my dad, mom, and ex-husband to get the bed here, finished, and brought upstairs! 🙏

Still have some changes planned for this room (natural wood dresser? New bedding. Different art? Lucy wants unicorn decals on the ceiling 🤔)… but I’m enjoying it a lot already.

It’s not done, but it’s made Lucy very happy. I found the bed on Facebook and painted it, the rest we already had and I’m sure I will get some ideas to update. Also, she’s told me she no longer wants bunnies on the wall; just rainbows and unicorns. 🤪💕

Recently got this bunkbed and both kids started sleeping in Otto‘s room, which has had some very sweet pros, but they are both particular about their bedding and where they put their heads and at the end of the day I am not going to argue! But I’m happy with how fun and cute this room is turning out.

Working on some changes in Otto's room. Cause, big news! @theinside (who I love for affordable custom patterned furniture) now sells curtains from their fabulous prints!! Otto and I chose this one and the fun yellow tiger print for the ottoman together. He's excited and I'm so happy to have somewhere to sit when tucking him in. I had sad, floppy, standard width curtains on Otto's window for years, and the rod installed juuuust wide enough. Nope!! Not a good look. I got two panels for each side of this window and installed the curtain rod hardware wide enough so that they can be fully open without blocking the window trim. Makes such a difference!!

Three has been challenging age for both my kids, but it’s pretty awesome at times, too. Lucy knows what she wants! I knew she would love this nightgown with flamingos on it. @petiteplume has some very cute ones!

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” but… I can’t help wondering about changing out Lucy’s striped rug for this pink vintage one that’s been in the old office (soon to be mudroom). I like the dusty aqua plus neutrals in here, but… I also love the pink! What do you think!

Big news!!!! Our home is featured on @magnolianetwork’s show Diary of an Old Home. Of course, they used Lucy‘s room as the title shot! Of course! It is a gem of the house. It’s a really wonderful episode where they talk about how we bought this house and totally renovated it, and how grateful I am for this space and neighborhood for my family. We love Otto’s room but something that’s in the back of my mind is one of these days we might want to fit one or two twin beds in here and… it will be tight. Otto will outgrow that crib soon and Lucy probably can’t sleep off our bedroom forever. I was thinking bed, dresser in the middle, bed on the back wall? But need room for the curtains to open. This room is so small! What would you do??

Possibly the most insta-gram ever cause I’m sitting in this chair as I wrote this. I spend a lot of time here still snuggling and feeding and reading baby books with Lucy. Just thought I’d share a baby related pic cause the second post in my motherhood opinions/choices series is up today; this one’s about sleep training/if we did it/how we did it/baby sleep (100% the hardest thing for me at first). I’m very happy about and proud of what we did, particularly with Lucy, worth a read if you’re interested!

I am so excited about these toddler duvets/covers!! There’s way more selection for standard size ones so I bought a queen size comforter and tan gingham queen size duvet cover and made them into two 45”X60” ones—one for each kid’s crib! They both love them!
I’ll share a full tutorial on the blog and briefly as a reel soon; had to order another zipper for one (tacked it closed with big stitches for now). This was a fun and easy project!

Made a list of our 2021 house projects/achievements up on the blog today, man, what a good feeling! Little by little we’ve been checking things off our goal and would-be-nice lists and when you look at the whole year at once it really adds up. Even though some of these projects took me 5 months to actually “finish.” Lucy’s room is one of my favorites for sure!!!

Living room rug problems aside, I am still way into adding color and pattern to our home. I realized my favorite rooms are the ones where I’ve been brave and used a color for the walls. 😬 The first 2.5 years in living this house I was just trying to clean everything up and simplify, go white, neutral, newer-feeling. But now I am actually trying to think of where else I can paint a color! Otto‘s room? Our room? Maybe wallpaper our room? I’m not sure if/when I’ll give into this urge but wanted to share.
What’s the last color are you painting something? Are your favorite spaces neutral or more colorful?
By the way if you’re wondering the living room rug resolution, there is no resolution. 🤪😭 I’m going to try a couple things I’ll share in stories…

Still working on some changes in here but I’m excited with how Otto‘s room is feeling! The vintage oil painting, gingham bedding, and new funky block print shade have added some charm to the modern nursery furniture. The tutorial for this pleated lampshade is up on my blog today. There are a few other tutorials and methods out there, some with sewing, some with self-fabric trim or bias, and I wasn’t up for either of those so I did a no-sew method and used premade contrast trim, which is actually kind of English country and fun. I will definitely be doing this again!! Check out the tutorial on the blog and pin for later!
