I had basically given up on finding a rug that was the right size for this room, but there are great custom options now! A rug that’s the right size, filling the room under at least the front legs of all the furniture, especially in a high-quality natural fiber like wool, makes a space feel so much more comfortable and luxurious.

Lucy’s room was already adorable but the new rug, a more functional and pink-trimmed Roman shade, and some art updates made it feel even nicer. And some additional toys and dolls made it feel more like hers. 💕

My daughter's room was really cute, but needed some upgrades upgrades for function and to make it a little more elegant. First I swapped the Roman shade for this much nicer one… and then the RUG! This made the biggest difference. I found a custom size rug from Sisal Rugs Direct because this room is so long and skinny.

It's a comfortable wool and it comes with a backing attached so it's super easy to lay down. Using a rug the right size gave us enough space for all of her stuff. I was able to clear out some things, get some toy organizers, and then do some final styling touches to make this room feel so lovely and special for her.

I’ve been working on Otto’s room for a year, but I was so stumped by the bedding! Finally found just the right things from @thecompanystore. I had real down/feather pillows when I was a kid and I didn’t realize how hard it was to find good ones now. These are so soft and nice. I love the scallop trim on the shams and quilt! And they’ve just been using those lightweight cotton blankets during the summer, so breathable and comfortable. I think boys’ rooms are hard after the toddler phase. Loving what we found!

I have been scratching my head forever to figure out what blankets/quilts to do for Otto’s bunkbed. We’ve had a couple warmer evenings where the comforter is too warm so I think I’ve got to figure it out soon. Red stripe? Dark red? Darkish blue? What would you do and have you seen such a product available?!

Lucy’s big girl room is done thanks to some charming new bedding and some vintage dresser decor I recently pulled out of a box of stuff from my childhood in the basement ❤️. Here are some still photos. More on my blog and all the sources!

This was a Christmas break project and it took a little longer than I hoped because of the tricky knobs and feet, and I should’ve just ordered that perfect English pine look wax in the first place! What do you think, too much work? Honestly, normally I would say yes, but it is the perfect size for that spot… 🤪

Lucy was seriously so excited when she saw her new bedding, she jumped on her bed and rolled up in a ball and squealed, “I love it!!” This room is pretty magical already, but it was missing a cohesive bedding palette, and I love this combo from @riflepaperco and @thecompanystore! This percale sheet pattern is called Strawberry Fields which is so perfect for my sweet little girl who loves girly things and would eat a whole pound of strawberries every time I buy them if I let her. 💕

I’m still working on Otto’s bedroom but for now I found him the cutest sheets and am playing with lots of blues in here. I’m a white sheet person but for a little boys room that just didn’t feel right. This blue and white gingham is so cute! The duvet cover has a little wave pattern. Both are from @petiteplume, they have a couple of new bedding patterns just out recently too.
I am still tickled about some of these other unique pieces in Otto’s room too! And I’m thinking of replacing those baskets with a dresser, what do you think?

Honestly I’m pretty worn out on the DIY projects, but when I’m able to make something special like this for my daughter I’m grateful I have the skills and supplies to do this with relatively minimal disturbance to my life. 🤪 Although it did take some coordination and help from my dad, mom, and ex-husband to get the bed here, finished, and brought upstairs! 🙏

Still have some changes planned for this room (natural wood dresser? New bedding. Different art? Lucy wants unicorn decals on the ceiling 🤔)… but I’m enjoying it a lot already.

It’s not done, but it’s made Lucy very happy. I found the bed on Facebook and painted it, the rest we already had and I’m sure I will get some ideas to update. Also, she’s told me she no longer wants bunnies on the wall; just rainbows and unicorns. 🤪💕
