From the diary of a stay-at-home mom: It's the end of the day, and I feel like I can't be touched one more time. I grow so weary and find that my tone can be unkind or annoyed as the evening comes to a close. I don't have any more to give and realize that I haven't sat down for more than 10 minutes in my entire 12 (more like 16) hour day. When this becomes a recurring theme in my life, I know that something is off. I try to remind myself that I'm human, and I can only extend so much of myself before needing to be filled back up again. It’s okay to acknowledge that, but also: don't stay in that place. Jesus has far more for you than living life on a ferris wheel of weariness. You aren't supposed to feel so lost that you're just grasping at straws for a sense of direction. True rest is productive. It isn't a luxury. Rest isn't just scrolling social media or binge-watching Netflix. It's acknowledging that we aren't in control. It's filling our souls with truth and goodness, and taking time for things that build up our hearts, souls and minds. Our culture has a tendency to lean on crutches. We claim we couldn't make it through the day without that glass or two of wine. We succumb to the mindless scrolling to detach from reality. At the end of the day, these crutches debilitate us. And while you may feel that they are making you "stronger" temporarily, they are weakening you permanently. All work becomes restless if we aren't truly resting in the Lord. We often say we can't make time for rest, but the truth is, we can't afford not to. We make time for what is important. We can't maintain the crazy cycle of discontentment and exhaustion. God's promise of rest is healing to the weary soul. Let Him carry your burden today while you rest in His goodness. ❤️
