5 things we do not buy in the sales ☝🏻

Sales can be brilliant when used strategically. They’re the moment to secure those pieces that are usually slightly beyond reach - the ones that genuinely elevate your wardrobe.

But to shop well, we also need a clear list of what not to buy:
1. Items we’ve never considered before.
If it wasn’t on your radar pre-sale, it’s most likely an impulse purchase. Decide your priorities before the discounts begin.

2. Duplicates of what we already own.
If you already have a version you prefer, the second one will sit unworn. The exception is true wardrobe workhorses like good basics that you go through.

3. Pieces outside the budget
No discount is worth going into debt for. If you love it, add it to a future wishlist instead.

4. Items we only like when they’re discounted
If the only appealing thing about it is the price tag, it’s not meant for your wardrobe.

5. The big-reduction distraction
A great markdown doesn’t make it a great purchase. Use price-per-wear as your decision lens.

I flew to Sweden to surprise my sister for her 40th 🎈

Together with @nikolinastenstrom and @marinamontgomery , we lured @s_mnty to @yasuragisweden - the most magical Japanese spa just outside Stockholm.

Hot springs, saunas, cold plunges, champagne in both the pools and the glasses, a beautiful dinner, sound baths, cupping, deep sleep… and so much laughter.

Silk - My favourite fabric of all. Smooth, soft and luminous. Nothing feels more luxurious on the skin. Some silks can be hand washed, others need dry cleaning, but they all respond beautifully to steaming.

Cashmere - The ultimate wool. Soft, warm, never itchy. It insulates in winter while still being breathable. I wash mine at 30°C with wool detergent and dry flat, a towel on underfloor heating works wonders.

If you are feeling a bit low on creativity, or stuck with your wardrobe. Go to Pinterest, find 3 looks you really love and challenge yourself to recreate them with items you already have in your wardrobe.

It doesn’t have to be exact and you might have to fill in the blanks a bit, but I find that most of the time it works out really well.

This little exercise helps you look at the pieces you already own differently. With some inspiration and creativity, our wardrobes go a lot further than we think. Imagine all the different outfit combinations you haven’t tried yet!

The season of the statement coat 🍂
I always recommend to spend a bit more money on your outerwear as you are going to be wearing it often and it should truly represent your personal style.

Few pieces in our wardrobes get as much use as our coats here in the UK. So we better make sure we really love the ones we choose to buy.

Right now is the perfect time to invest in a statement coat. Before we cover ourselves in layers upon layers, but still need something warmer when we go outside.

I come back to these 3 coats/capes year after year. And as they are personal style items and not trends, they never feel dated.

5 key skills of those with great style.

There is this misconception that some people are just born with great style. This is not true. Style is a skill, it has been acquired.

The good news is that if they can do it, so can you.

Here are the 5 top skills that people with great style possess.

1. They understand shades, colours and the difference between warm, cool and neutral undertones. This often comes from experimenting with putting different coloured items together and seeing what looks good. Sounds basic? It is, but it works.

2. They understand the colour of texture. If colour is 2D, texture is 3D. It’s the next level that makes an outfit more interesting. Especially if you pick one shade, then it’s extra important to mix up the textures. The general rule is matte against shiny and rough against soft.

3. People with great style understands proportions. This will be unique to us all as we have different heights and body shapes to work with. What might work for me might not look as good on you.
Just knowing what waist height or ankle length is more flattering on your body will make a world of difference.

4. The next skill to know is fit. Not to be confused with “fitted”. Yes, you need your fitted items to have the right fit. But something oversized can still fit you. It depends on the look you are going for. The fit has to be intentional, you chose for it to fit you a specific way for the overall feel of the outfit.

5. Last but not least you need to be able to accessorise. And the great thing here is that there is soooo much choice. You can give 100 people the same base outfit and the results can still be wildly different after they have accessorised. This is where personal style really shines. Every little accessory you add is like showing a little piece of you.

I’m still to turn up in my PJs or home clothes, but I’m sure it will happen someday when I’m super late. 🤷🏼‍♀️

We often have sport fixtures to watch before pickup or coffee mornings to attend after drop off. So I try to make the effort.

Most of the time I revert back to these 5 tried and tested looks that are super quick to throw on but still looks fairly put together.

It’s worth noting that I drive to the school, so I’m always in flat shoes and I don’t really need a coat or a jacket just yet.
