CHAPTER 04 | A SEAT AT THE TABLE Today’s backdrop is @chickenhutdurham, Durham’s oldest Black Owned restaurant! Founded in 1957, Chicken Hut has been a staple in Durham for generations. Originally known as The Chicken Box, the restaurant became a gathering place for Black activists during the Civil Rights Movement, providing meals to jailed protestors, placing community care at the forefront of the restaurant’s priorities. Today, you can tell that not much about that priority has changed! It’s still good food, familiar faces, and a reminder that community can be found around every table. As I continue styling through the city, I’m also walking through the places that helped shape it. Walk the city with me 🧡🐂
