How to choose rugs in connecting spaces 🤍

One of the easiest ways to make connecting rooms feel cohesive is carrying parts of the color palette through each rug — even if the patterns themselves are different.

I usually start with the boldest pattern first, then balance it with softer or more neutral rugs nearby. That doesn’t mean everything has to be completely plain though… texture and subtle pattern still add so much warmth and depth.

Repeating a similar pattern in a different scale can work beautifully too.

Throughout our home, most of our rugs share:
– warm beige undertones
– softer blues
– and a similar overall softness in contrast

That consistency is what keeps everything feeling connected without feeling overly matched.

It’s one of those quieter details that makes a home feel layered and intentional ✨

One of the biggest things that made our home feel more custom wasn’t adding more…it was repeating what we already chose.

Instead of selecting new finishes in every space, we carried some of the same elements through.

✨ cabinet colors in connected primary spaces
✨ hardware finishes that connect to lighting finishes
✨ the same marble in the kitchen on the built-ins and fireplace
✨ consistent wood stain across cabinetry and woodwork

Even smaller details, like shelving and accents help. That continuity is what makes a home feel intentional… and ultimately more custom.
