We live in a society where ordinary is the default - where everyone’s chasing fame with the same soft captions, the same curated lifestyle, the same three presets.

Happy spring… the ticks are back - but here’s what’s always been helpful for us 👇🏼

First and foremost we do not use any form of pesticides in this house. Having Vinny, him being all of 4lbs forced me to explore gentler options for bug care and frankly, I never looked back. I use all these products on the big dogs too

Most conventional treatments (like Seresto Flea & Tick Collar) rely on neurotoxic pesticides

🚩 Ingredients to watch for:

* Imidacloprid
* Flumethrin
* Fipronil
* Permethrin

These work by attacking a parasite’s nervous system… but your dog is still absorbing small amounts over time. Many smaller breeds are affected more by this because their tiny bodies are not able to tolerate it. If small dogs are at risk, in my opinion nobody should be exposed

Not when there are natural remedies that actually work

These WORK:

* Cedarwood oil
* Lemongrass oil
* Geraniol
* Peppermint oil

(plant-based + naturally repellent)

Use topically & in kennels, outside spaces, breezeways, cars and any areas where bugs can hide
Some extra favorites (not pictured but we have and actively use) you can safely use on dogs + yourself:

* Primally Pure Bug Spray @primallypure
* Kin + Kind Flea & Tick Spray @kinandkindofficial

Why they work:
✔ Create a scent barrier bugs hate
✔ No pesticide buildup in the body
✔ Safe for frequent use (walks, hikes, yard time)

All the best things in our house

1. First aid is #1. We keep these on hand and new, 24/7. I love @dogswell - they have a line that covers just about anything you’d need

2. Chuck-it sticks go hard in our house 🤣 so hard they tend to get lost or left behind. These are the dogs favorites so every spring/summer I’ll grab a bucket

3. @lesurepet blankets are to die for. Vadah loves her blankets so hard they tend to turn into Swiss cheese with all the holes, these are the best ones we’ve found. They last and are amazingly durable and waterproof

4. Bone marrow is kept in stock alongside the food. These are beyond an enrichment must have they are packed with nutrients these dogs need especially in these colder months

5. Muslin blankets (yes I really mean that) these I’ve found to be so nice on the skin, we’ve been dealing with some severe dry skin around here and these just help keep the dogs beds and skin dry and clean. I replace them decently often but they’re primarily for the winter months and are so worth it. Vito especially has had severe dry skin issues and these have helped the irritation and heat retention that came with his fleece blankets

GROOMING TIPS FOR YORKIES 🐾

Yorkies may be small, but their grooming needs are anything but. With a fine, hair-like coat (not fur), regular maintenance is key to keeping them comfortable, mat-free, and looking their best.

✨ Coat Care
Yorkies need brushing several times a week - daily if they’re kept in a longer style. A soft slicker brush paired with a lightweight detangling spray helps prevent breakage and matting, especially behind the ears, under the legs, and around the collar area.

🛁 Bathing Routine
Every 2–4 weeks is ideal. Use a gentle, moisturizing shampoo formulated for fine coats, followed by a light conditioner to maintain softness without weighing the hair down.

✂️ Haircuts & Trims
Whether you prefer a traditional long coat or a puppy cut, consistency matters. Regular trims around the eyes, feet, and sanitary areas help with hygiene and visibility between full grooms.

👂 Ears, Nails & Teeth
Clean ears weekly, keep nails short to avoid joint strain, and don’t skip dental care: Yorkies are especially prone to dental issues, so brushing teeth or using vet-approved dental chews is a must.
