I’ve been dragging my feet finishing the hallway. I don’t know if it’s because it’s such a narrow space or that no one really sees it but us. All that’s left to do is place the artwork in the frames but I’ll leave that as a surprise for now. My craft nook is finally finished as well. My mother-in-law and I made these custom shade covers to match the chair seat covers we made a while back. I love how the stripes look agains the gold leaf chandelier (a Christmas gift from my husband❤️). Seeing the finished project is extremely rewarding. Behold- our new Christmas tree! We used to visit the tree farm and cut one down every year but a few years ago we made the transition to an artificial tree and I’m kind of in love with the symmetry of artificial trees. This one is still narrow but much fuller than our other tree. I tried a few things I’ve never done before, adding candles, berry picks and ribbon. I’m pleased with how she turned out and I’m surprisingly in love with how the scarlet red looks against the French blue. Do you love a gallery wall but feel overwhelmed by just the thought of one? Start small. Clear off a shelf (or multiple) and arrange a variety of pictures and small collected pieces on display. You can leave a door open when company is over to provide a better view. I had a few different ideas for how to display my vintage Christmas postcard collection but I’m glad I went with framing them. They look perfect in my petite secretary. I was able to find the perfect frames this weekend and adding the backing was a lot of fun. I’ll probably add some fresh pine sprigs to complete this cozy vignette. It seems designers are moving away from the sterile grey and white kitchen but white cabinets will continue to be a timeless classic. With the right finishes a white kitchen can be a warm and cozy place but finding the balance can be difficult. I have a few tried and true tips for bringing the warmth into a white kitchen. Our kitchen has white cabinets and walls but it’s one of the coziest rooms in our home and here’s why: 1. Copper- copper utensils, copper pans, and my absolute favorite- vintage copper jello molds. I love seeing them hanging behind the range. 2. Brass hardware- bonus points if they are unlaquered. The patina ours have developed over the last year and a half only adds to the warm, loved in feel. 3. Warm wood floors- the floor is one of the largest surfaces of the room and that shouldn’t be disregarded. We chose a warm, coffee brown and a lighter shade of brown for the kitchen island. I think a white island would have felt cold, especially with the countertops I chose which are white and gray with a brown veining. 4. Wicker- every room should have some variation of wicker, even the kitchen.
