Frozen River is not a book I would typically pick up upon first reading the synopsis + time period but I’m glad I did!!

Set in Maine, 1789…Frozen River follows the adventures of the town’s most trusted midwife-Martha Ballard! Martha finds herself entangled in the town’s most personal lives including a murder investigation!

Frozen River shares an often untold working woman’s perspective during that time period! Martha is such a likable main character! Frozen River is a mixture of mystery, romance and historical fiction weaved into one great story! ❄️

I’m in a time of wanting to read books that matter, that mean something or ones that make me think a little deeper…Only the Beautiful certainly met those requirements.

This story is a heartbreaking tale of the devastating ways people were treated throughout both WWII as well as those seen with differences in the US during the 30’s and 40’s.

Rosie is a young, orphaned girl with the ability to see colors when she hears sounds. When she becomes pregnant, her caregivers send her to an institution where she fights to keep her baby and her dignity.

Meanwhile in Austria, Helen desperately tries to save the children in her care and much unimaginable loss.

Ultimately, these women’s stories are woven together in a redemptive way and a reminder that light always overcomes.

The truths in this story are unfathomable and hard to read at times but ones that we carry with us.

If you’re looking for a brokenly beautiful story, this is it!

I’ve got a spooky one for you on this Friday, the 13th! My neighborhood book club is reading this one together✨Flicker in the Dark is a thriller that follows the daughter of a serial killer…things take a turn when people around here end up being killed! This book kept me guessing!! It was also pretty dark and I was glad when it was over! Are you reading any spooky books this month?!

Looking for a fun read over Fall Break?! Piece of Cake, written by Nashville’s own @mrssouthernsocial and Asher Fogle Paul is a cute story and is set in Nashville! Main character Claire Summers is a former debutante scraping by as a magazine writer in Nashville!! The magazine is close to shutting down but Claire has a plan! I enjoyed listening to the audio version {despite the reader’s attempt at a southern accent 😜} and especially enjoyed shoutouts to some of my local favorites like @cheekwood
Give this one a read!
