When we rolled up to the entry to the Queen’s Staircase, a friendly guy told us to park our car right next to the entry on the road. I thought for sure our little Nissan would be towed away, but he assured us it would be alright. He guided us into the walkway, which is bordered by towering, chiseled limestone walls. He explained that the walls were the result of thousands of stones cut out by slaves to build Fort Fincastle, which sits just above on the hill. After Queen Victoria came to power, she ended slavery in the Bahamas.
