When I first decided medical school was not for me, I took a number of odd jobs. Social media management, working at a juice bar, and even writing for a part-Dear Abby part-Cosmopolitan dating website. 😂

My relationships were a mess, so I might not have been the most qualified...but hey, something had to pay for my shitty studio apartment (and my freedom).

I wouldn't trade that shitty studio and exhausting jobs for anything though, because they made me face my fears of standing all alone - no backup plan - and trying something new.

I'm certainly not perfect in relationships now, but if I had to rewrite those columns today, I'd share this: you have to know yourself first. You have to be okay with sitting with yourself, ugly parts included, before you can show up for someone else. I'm lucky to have a guy who challenges me every. damn. day. Including telling me I should walk out on this plank suspended over the Chicago river 😉

I got a deep tissue massage yesterday and my masseuse said the knots in my back and shoulders are some of the worst she's ever seen 😱 The combo of working out + working on a laptop all day + toting half my belongings around the city comes with some consequences! I've been prescribed weekly massages for a month (no complaints 💅🏻). I'm adding this acupressure mat to help my muscles release in between sessions.
