Day 12 of making the house less annoying? Making decluttering less well annoying. 3 gallon bags keep the mess contained and the decisions more doable.

So you don’t burn out halfway through and give up.

Use them to separate what you’re keeping, donating, or selling and move at your own pace.

1. Costumes are out all year. Because if they’re going to dress like a dinosaur, I’d rather it not involve dragging out bins or having to rummage through a closet.

2. As they’ve gotten older, I ask for their input on toys to be donated and involve them in the process. If they’re not sure, we have a system and an expiration date.

3. I organize zero of my husband’s stuff. I’d rather use that energy on other things.

4. I ignore most organizing “rules” and build systems around how we actually live.

It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it works for our family and more importantly, it’s helped me feel less like I’m managing a 🎪 24/7. I’m not handling everything for everyone anymore, and the house doesn’t drive me nearly as crazy as it used to.

If you’ve got a small room, too many toys, and no clue where to put them… this is one of my favorite low-lift fixes. I love it because it’s:

Damage-free
Vertical (so it doesn’t eat up floorspace)
Out of sight but still accessible
Kid-friendly enough they’ll actually use it

All you need is a blank door.
No drilling. No overflowing bins. Works in a variety of places.

The exact one I use is
Container store but I’ve linked similar options as well.
