Would you have guessed which two pieces I splurged on? Want the links sent to you? Comment SPLURGE and I’ll DM them! The denim shirt and camel sweatshirt blazer were the investment pieces in this outfit—and this is exactly what I want from something that costs more. I don’t want to save it for “good.” I want to reach for it over and over and be able to wear it with the clothes already in my closet. At 56 and 6’1”, I’ve become much more interested in cost per wear than cost alone. Here, I’m layering two higher-priced wardrobe staples with cream wide-leg jeans, brown suede woven flats and an inexpensive faux-suede bag. The mix is what makes the whole outfit work: classic denim, soft camel, cream and rich brown for an easy fall outfit that still feels polished. That’s also my test for this week’s Splurge Edit: not Is it expensive? but Did it earn its place in my closet? Save this fall outfit formula if you’d wear it, and send it to a friend who loves classic style. Now I’m curious: what category are YOU willing to spend more on—shoes, bags, denim, sweaters, jackets…or something else? Over40Style FallOutfitIdeas TallWomenStyle
