So tell me: would you like more posts like this? 5 outfits for a long weekend on Cape Cod—and for once, I actually wore everything I packed. Want the links sent to you? Comment CAPE and I’ll DM them! At 56 and 6'1", I've become much less interested in packing more and much more interested in packing pieces that can do more. For a recent fall weekend on the Cape, that meant comfortable layers, denim, cashmere, a few great sweaters and jackets, and shoes I could actually spend the day walking in. I've been coming to Cape Cod for most of my life, so this is very much how I really dress when I'm here: casual enough for coffee and a walk by the water, layered for changing coastal temperatures, but still pulled together enough to head out for lunch or dinner. And I'm trying something a little different here. I'd love to start sharing more of my travels through the lens of personal style—what I pack, what I actually wear, the places we go, and a few of the things that make traveling easier. Save this one if you have a fall weekend trip coming up, send it to your favorite travel partner, and tell me in the comments: Are you a carry-on-only packer or a “but what if I need it?” packer? This Outfit Isn't Bad. But Something's Missing.
The finishing touches that make an outfit.

You know that feeling when you put together an outfit and it's good... but something is missing? Sometimes it's not the clothes at all. It's the finishing touches. The right pair of shoes, a beautiful handbag, a statement necklace, or even a scarf can take a simple outfit from everyday to effortlessly polished. Today I'm sharing 10 of my favorite accessories for women who love classic, timeless style, including fall shoes, versatile handbags, colorful jewelry, and scarves that can completely change the look of an outfit.

A great outfit doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it's the simplest combinations that look the most pulled together.

At 56 and 6'1", I'm all about classic, wearable outfits that feel polished without looking like I've tried too hard.

Today's fall outfit is proof that a few good wardrobe staples can do the work: a white ribbed knit tee, camel cashmere cardigan, light-wash straight-leg jeans, and camel suede pointed-toe block heels.

It's the combination of soft cashmere, relaxed denim, and a dressier shoe that takes this from basic jeans and a sweater to an elevated everyday outfit.

And the best part? These are pieces you can mix and match with so much of your existing wardrobe.

Tell me: Are you wearing heels with your jeans these days, or are you strictly a flats-and-sneakers girl?

Denim-on-denim…but make it polished.

Comment PINTEREST and I’ll send everything over

At 56 and 6’1”, I’m always looking for ways to make denim feel a little more elevated—and this Pinterest-inspired outfit might be one of my favorite takes on it yet.

A cream ribbed knit top breaks up the dark wash, while a structured dark denim jacket and matching wide-leg jeans create an almost suit-like effect. The pointed-toe beige suede heels are the finishing touch that takes the whole look from casual denim to polished fall outfit.

This is exactly the kind of outfit formula I love: simple pieces, strong proportions, and just enough detail to make it interesting.

Would you wear denim-on-denim like this—or are you still not convinced? Tell me below. And SAVE this one for the next time you want your jeans to look a whole lot more dressed up.

A brown cashmere cardigan paired with dark-wash trouser jeans creates an easy, sophisticated fall outfit. Add a leopard print belt and matching leopard flats, and suddenly a simple jeans outfit feels much more elevated.

At 6'1", I'm always looking for tall-friendly jeans and wardrobe staples that are comfortable, flattering, and versatile enough to wear on repeat.

And that's what I love about classic style for women over 40 and 50. You don't need an entirely new wardrobe to look put together. Sometimes it's just about how you style what you already own.

Would you have guessed which two pieces I splurged on?

Want the links sent to you? Comment SPLURGE and I’ll DM them!

The denim shirt and camel sweatshirt blazer were the investment pieces in this outfit—and this is exactly what I want from something that costs more. I don’t want to save it for “good.” I want to reach for it over and over and be able to wear it with the clothes already in my closet.

At 56 and 6’1”, I’ve become much more interested in cost per wear than cost alone. Here, I’m layering two higher-priced wardrobe staples with cream wide-leg jeans, brown suede woven flats and an inexpensive faux-suede bag. The mix is what makes the whole outfit work: classic denim, soft camel, cream and rich brown for an easy fall outfit that still feels polished.

That’s also my test for this week’s Splurge Edit: not Is it expensive? but Did it earn its place in my closet?

Save this fall outfit formula if you’d wear it, and send it to a friend who loves classic style.
Now I’m curious: what category are YOU willing to spend more on—shoes, bags, denim, sweaters, jackets…or something else?

8 Outfits. One Closet. Plenty of Ideas.
Some weeks call for a polished blazer and beautiful suede accessories. Other days, all I want is a comfortable pair of pants, a great sweater and sneakers. This week's outfit roundup has a little of everything! I'm sharing eight real-life fall outfits from my closet, including elevated denim, classic blazers, cashmere sweaters, wide-leg jeans and comfortable everyday pieces. At 56 and 6'1", I've learned that great personal style isn't about buying more clothes. It's about finding pieces that fit well, work together and make getting dressed easier.

Black and brown together? Absolutely.
At 56 and 6'1", I've learned that some of the best outfits come from ignoring outdated fashion rules.
And this is one of my favorite examples.

A simple black ribbed knit tee and tailored black trousers create the foundation. Add a cropped chocolate brown leather jacket and brown suede pointed-toe shoes, and suddenly those classic black pieces feel completely different.

What I especially love about this combination is how the rich brown softens the black without sacrificing that polished, sophisticated look.

It's an easy fall outfit that feels modern, elevated, and wearable. Exactly the kind of timeless style I love sharing for women over 40 and 50.

And if you're tall like me, the high-waisted trousers and shorter jacket are a great combination for creating beautiful proportions.

Now I want to hear from you!
Have you embraced wearing black and brown together, or is this one fashion rule you're still hesitant to break?

I’m 56, 6'1", and I’ve become VERY selective about what gets my splurge money.
Because I don't think looking polished means everything you're wearing needs to be expensive.

Want the links sent to you? Comment SPLURGE and I’ll DM them!

For this fall outfit, I started with a brown cashmere crewneck and dark-wash jeans—two simple wardrobe staples. Then I added the pieces I will spend more on: a beautifully tailored houndstooth blazer, a brown suede handbag and brown suede pointed-toe block heels.
And that is increasingly my formula for getting dressed: let a few exceptional pieces elevate everything else.

The houndstooth blazer gives the jeans structure. The chocolate-brown suede accessories pull the whole color palette together. And the pointed toe adds just enough polish without making the outfit feel overly dressed.

For me, a splurge-worthy piece has to earn its place in my closet. I want quality, versatility and enough staying power that I'll still be excited to wear it years from now—not something I'll love for one season and forget about the next.

Now I'm curious: where are YOU most willing to splurge—blazer, bag or shoes?

OOTD Monochromatic outfit of the evening. An all olive look.

At 56, I don’t want pink to feel precious. I want it to look like this.

Want the links sent to you? Comment PINK and I’ll DM them!

Soft pink cashmere layered over a crisp white oxford, brown pinstripe wide-leg trousers, pointed-toe suede heels and a structured suede bag. The menswear-inspired trousers and rich chocolate brown keep the pink from feeling overly sweet — and make this one of those polished fall outfits I could wear again and again.

And at 6’1”, trousers are always part of the equation for me. These have the long, fluid silhouette I look for, and pairing them with a crewneck cashmere sweater makes the whole outfit feel elevated without being complicated.

This is exactly what I mean when I talk about building a fall wardrobe around pieces that work together: a great cashmere sweater, a white button-down, trousers and brown accessories. Nothing complicated. It’s the combination that makes it interesting.

Would you wear pink with brown? Tell me below — because I think this color combination deserves a lot more attention this fall.

A fitting room only tells me so much.
And this try-on proved it.

Comment TRYON and I’ll send everything over.

At 56 and 6’1”, I’ve learned not to judge a piece solely by the outfit I happen to grab in the store. Sometimes the top isn’t quite right. Sometimes the proportions need adjusting. And sometimes one piece that seems just okay becomes VERY good once I get it home and style it with my own wardrobe.

This fall try-on included wide-leg trousers, pull-on pants, fall dresses, striped sweaters, cardigans and denim — but pay attention to the pieces that show up again near the end.
Those are the ones I brought home and restyled with cashmere and pieces already in my closet.

And THAT is the test for me: can I immediately see at least a few ways to wear it with what I already own?

Swipe through the whole try-on before you decide.

Then tell me: which outfit would YOU wear first? And did any of the pieces change your mind once you saw how I styled them at home?

Save this for fall outfit inspiration, send it to your shopping friend, and share it with someone who loves classic style with a little something unexpected.

Tall women know why the length of these jeans stopped me in my tracks.

I’m 6’1”, and finding tall wide-leg jeans that are actually long enough is not something I take for granted. These have the length, the full wide-leg silhouette and the proportions I want — and yes, they’re even long on me.

For this easy fall outfit, I paired the medium-wash wide-leg jeans with an olive green cardigan and brown suede block-heel Mary Janes. It’s the kind of timeless, classic everyday style I wear constantly: simple pieces, rich fall color and just enough interest without making the outfit complicated.

And can we talk about this GREEN? Brown, burgundy and chocolate are everywhere for fall, but this olive/mossy green deserves some attention too.

Tall friends: what’s harder for you to find — jeans that are long enough or sleeves that are long enough?

THE TWO BAGS I NEVER UNPACK
My ready-to-go makeup + skincare stay packed between trips.
One less thing to think about.
