the balloon pant rules i follow
1.fitted or cropped on top — loose on loose = shapeless
2.show some ankle — keeps it from reading as one column of fabric
3.sleek shoes only — pointed flats or a slim boot, never chunky. two volume moments compete

how i style balloon pants 3 ways (work, weekend, night out)

work: fitted blazer, tucked-in top, pointed flats or a slim heel
weekend: a fitted tank or cropped tee, sneakers/flats or sandals, textured bag to break up the proportions
night out: bodysuit, heels, bold earrings and a fun clutch (linked some ideas below for all of these)
