This little styling trick makes such a difference when you’re wearing a sweater. Push up the sleeves to draw the eye toward your waist and keep the look from feeling frumpy. Then front tuck or tuck both the front and back like I did here so it hits right at the hips.

If you have a belly, I understand wanting a longer sweater to cover your midsection, but that can make your upper body look shapeless. Instead, try a soft front-tuck and let the front drape over the waistband. It hints at a defined waistline without showing every curve.

Low ankle boots with a side V-cut are out. They worked with skinny jeans, but now they look dated.

Here are 4 styles to wear instead:

1. Elongated Toe Booties – These low-heel ankle boots from @jcrewfactory add a sleek look to anything you wear them with. They have an elongated toe box and a low two-inch heel that’s sturdy, easy to walk in, and very comfortable.

There are so many good jacket styles out this fall!

Barn jackets are everywhere! This one from Amazon is lightweight, has a brown corduroy collar, and is super cute. I’m wearing a M.

A short trench coat gives a classic but modern vibe. This one can be buttoned into an on-trend stand collar or left open for a more classic double breasted look. I’m wearing a M. This one needs a steam on arrival.

Suede jackets are another fall trend I’m loving. I love the cut of this short vegan suede jacket, it’s lined, and it’s so much more affordable than true suede. I gave it a steam to remove a few wrinkles and the fabric held up nicely. I’m wearing a M.

If you want to shake up your black pants routine, gray pants are a great alternative and go with so many colors.

I’m linking some of my favorite gray pants. These are from @Target. I sized up to a medium to get them over my hips. They do run on the longer side with flat shoes at 5’6” but they’re amazingly comfortable! I’m wearing low heeled ankle boots, and flat shoes in these pictures. If I wore them with flat shoes, I’d hem them with hem tape.
