Round jute rug, green gingham tablecloth, and kitchen island makeover

This before and after shows how a few thoughtful swaps completely changed the feel of our kitchen without a full renovation.

I replaced a bold patterned rug with a round jute rug, added a green gingham tablecloth for that relaxed European feel, and refreshed the island with a stained wood top and painted base.

Our house was never built with a decent-sized pantry, so years ago hubby gutted it and built deep shelves from floor to ceiling. It doesn’t look huge, but it holds a TON. There’s even a top shelf that you can’t see for emergency food.

It took me all weekend, but I finally went through everything, tossed expired items, and reorganized from scratch. I added a few organizing baskets and a can organizer and wow…I regret not buying one sooner. It saves so much space and lets you see every single can at once.

I still need to finish the door today. That’s where I keep spices, oils, and vinegars and it actually works really well.

I didn’t label everything in real life because it felt a little tacky, but I did send a labeled photo to my family so they know where things go. Fingers crossed this means I don’t have to do this again until next January 🤞🏻
