D Letter Study!

We do about one new letter each week for our preschool homeschool.

To say my dino-loving dudes were obsessed with this week is an understatement!

Letter Dd Activities:

🦖identify dinosaur names on dino house + play inside (we will come back and color in a year or so)
🦖 crack open some dino eggs
🦖dinosaur dig sensory bin
🦖count and sort dinosaur manipulatives
🦖dot to dot marker activities
🦖dog craft w/ toilet paper tube
🦖drawing!!
🦖dice games with wrapped tissue boxes
🦖build the letter D with #magnatiles , #playdough , and more!

(sorry I didn’t get pictures of everything!)

FOLLOW me, then COMMENT ✨LETTER D✨ for links to activities we did!

If you’re a preschool homeschool mom who’s not sure they’re “doing enough” for your littles, just know that you are!

Spending time together, gentle exposure to learning, and lots and lots of play *are* enough!! 🫶

Drying your hair outside? Peak motherhood and I’m HERE for it! ❤️

We love eating outside (when the weather cooperates) because

• the clean up is so easy!
• it’s less tempting to get on our phones
• we talk about birds, sounds we hear, etc. together while we eat
• I literally let my hair dry outside during meals!
• the kids can run around and play outside as soon as they’re done, while we finish our food in peace

Do you ever try this?

✨Comment DISHES for my tried-and-true mealtime favs that are great for eating outside (or inside too).

Sending you good weather vibes for some outside eating time! 🌸
I needed this 💕

Just me? ⬇️

The freedom I felt when I left teaching was ALL I needed to totally change our plans and stay home + teach my own kids.

iykyk…

But now? Figuring out wtf to do with my kids all day is up to me!

Here’s what works for us:

• plan our homeschool days the Friday before
• my husband and I have a shared digital calendar
• check the digital calendar on my watch first before planning our days
• hide my phone from myself during planning time lol
• watch/listen to something fun (on my laptop) while planning
• open and go curriculum gets plugged into my weekly planning page
• weekly planning page is kept on a clipboard with storage
• anything that I need cut out/ prep is added to clipboard storage

I save my favorite part for last! Reserving library books we need for the upcoming week(s) ❤️

How do you plan your days? I’d love to read your comments and swap ideas!

HEAR ME OUT👇

I’m a teacher-librarian turned homeschool mom and I’ve spent years of my life finding the best homeschool supplies, kid’s books, curriculum, toys, and learning materials.

These are the only thing I choose to spend my money on to teach my own kids.

• supplies that can be used for many different activities and ages
• curriculum that is open and go
• lessons that prioritize play + reduce screen time
• real learning that sticks

Avoid the fancy, complicated, expensive, and overstimulating homeschool fads.

✨Comment NEED for my go-to list of affordable homeschool supplies.

And be sure to hit follow for more homeschool help based on what I’m really using right now!

Homeschooling isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. You’ve got this, mama!

What NOT to do when your toddler hits (and what to do instead)

Self-regulating is an important skill for toddlers that takes a lot of practice (and tbh I’m still learning it too)

Is your toddler hitting? DON’T…

❌Generalize “we don’t hit.” “That’s not kind.” “No! Stop doing that”
❌Have a big reaction (raising your voice, big hand gestures, big consequences and lecture)
❌Try to immediately correct/ coach “what else can we do instead of hitting?”
(save this for LATER, once everyone is calm!)

Your toddler just smacked you in the face or pushed the baby over or threw a toy at another kid. DO…

✅Calmly remove them from the situation
✅Calmly set expectations/boundaries “You can’t [hit/push/throw…]. Hitting hurts.”
✅Calmly label their emotion “You’re feeling [frustrated/sad/mad] because…
✅Calmly affirm feelings while setting the boundary “it’s ok to feel…, but…
✅Calmly explain the boundary “I will hold [your hands/ the toy/ the baby] to keep everyone safe.”
✅Calmly tell them what they CAN do! “You can either wait for your turn with the green dino or you can play with the blue dino instead.”

You don’t have to do these all at once, especially the first time you try it!

And, when it’s calm (few hours later), say “Your brother’s body/feelings were hurt when you… Can you think of a way to help him feel better?” Discuss briefly and without punishment or consequence.
