I’ve been thinking about how we save our gratitude for eulogies. How we wait until someone’s gone to say all the things we should have said when they could still hear us. How we hold our love like it’s something precious to ration out, when really it’s meant to be spent freely, recklessly, now.

I don’t want to live like that anymore. I don’t want my people to wonder if they mattered to me. I don’t want to carry around all this appreciation like it’s too heavy to share, only to realize one day that the person I wanted to tell is no longer here to receive it.

So I’m trying to say it now. While they’re still sitting across from me at dinner. While they’re still answering my texts. While I can still watch their face light up when they realize I see them, really see them, and I’m so grateful they exist.

The world already takes so much from us. Time, certainty, presence. The least I can do is make sure the people I love know it. Not later. Not at the right moment. Not when I’ve found the perfect words.

Now. Messy and imperfect and too much. Because we’re not promised later, but we have right now.

Lately I’ve been thinking about how much of becoming is really just remembering. Remembering the way I used to move toward things without needing permission.

Remembering how joy once felt unmeasured, how creation didn’t need an audience to be real. Somewhere along the way, I learned to hesitate. To edit. To wait until I could explain myself clearly enough to be understood.

But there are moments, where that old instinct comes back. Where I feel myself soften instead of brace. Where writing feels less like output and more like returning a borrowed part of myself. Those moments don’t fix everything, but they remind me that nothing essential was ever lost. It was just waiting.

If you’re here, reading this, maybe you’re in that space too. Between who you were and who you’re becoming. Between knowing and trusting. I think there’s something healing about letting yourself exist there without rushing it. About letting the unfinished be enough for now.
