Yes, there’s a special way to wash curly hair! So without further ado, here is how you wash curly hair: Step 1: Wet hair down. Step 2: Clarifying shampoo (~1x/month). Note that well water builds up on the hair more than city water, so you may need to consider doing this more if this applies to you! Step 3: Rinse and repeat until it lathers. This may take 3-4 rounds of washing and that’s normal! Step 4: Cleansing shampoo to lower the scalp’s ph and close the cuticle. (This will be Step 2 on wash days you are not clarifying!) Step 5: Conditioner. A half-dollar-sized amount used on mids and ends and sitting for ~5-10 minutes before rinsing is ideal.
