Gymnastics banquet night for my girl, and I was not into buying something new for one night. So I channeled my inner French Lady and used what I had—mixing menswear with classic satin for a look that was timeless and, it turns out, unique.
Tons of compliments, the best one being Kenzie saying I “looked like I was in a Chanel No. 5 commercial.” Little did she know that’s exactly what I was going for.
You don’t need new clothes for every event, y’all, especially if you build a wardrobe of classics.

I am not one to splurge on my workout gear.
I do free workouts st home courtesy of the fabulous Nourish, Move, Love.
I don’t buy fancy workout clothes becuase, once again, I’m at home. So I just cycle through the same 2 shorts/2 leggings/2 tops I own and do lots of laundry.
And up until today I’ve used 4 year old running shoes to get the job done.

Unfortunately, those running shoes met an untimely (or timely depending on how you see it) death in the garden this week so I was forced to get a new pair.

Uncharacteristically, I chose to splurge on these Reebok Nano cross trainers and OH MY GOSH it turns out that shoes do make a difference.

Who knew?

Not only are these new babies cute, but they’re also so comfortable and stable for all of the work I put them through. I get the hype now, I do. Perfect for weight training and light running/walking but on up to intense CrossFit, these are the best workout shoe I’ve had in ages.

So if you’re in the hunt, hop on these. It’s a splurge, but so worth it!

Here is a good rule of thumb when it comes to fashion: it’s the one year question.
As in, will I still wear this in one year?

For me, the answer usually is YES—like with these TOMS wedges. They’re timeless enough that I’m sure I’ll get more than one years worth of wear out of them.

That’s why I didn’t mind paying for a pricier pair.

The jumpsuit? While adorable, I definitely see it as a trend item that will have a self life.

So that’s when I go budget-friendly (in this case, from Target).

The beauty is when you blend both low and high(ish) into one look and feel confident, comfortable, and cute.

Also, this jumpsuit comes with a tie belt but I’m hopeless at making them cute. So a quick swap saved the day!!

A striped dress is truly a summer staple everyone should have in their closet. I have a long one and this short tank style and both have been replayed in multiple different ways over the years.

I saw someone on the ‘gram describe this look as “new country girl summer,” and while that’s all well and good, I’ve been rocking the button down and cutoffs for years so I’m not sure how NEW it is.
Still the best summer look out there, especially with a soft linen shirt feeling cool on sunburned shoulders (ask me how I know).
Also, these TOMS wedges are still the best summer shoe going. They’re so comfortable, go with everything, and give any outfit a bit of a lift.

Two summer wins in one outfit, can’t beat that.

Campus tour day, so we go for comfort over all else.
These shorts—always a winner.
The new tank was a last minute snag at Target because my trust black tank had a hole in it. I’ve got to say, I’m impressed. Flattering cut, thick but soft material. Only drawback is it’s a bodysuit which isn’t my fave, but it’s workable.
Super budget friendly too.

I know they’re not the “IT” shoe right now, but there is a strong case for these Vans slip-ons anyway…
1) they’re slip ons (duh…easy)
2) they’re super cute and available in a ton of color combos
3) they’re light canvas so no sweaty feet

I am a big shop your closet fan.
I don’t think you need to overhaul your entire wardrobe every season.
I do think, though, adding a few new refresher pieces that bring excitement to your season but will also be functional for years to come.

I’m in my skort era.
(Just like I was in 1992 😂).
Ok. Maybe not.
But I do love this skort. It’s super lightweight and comfortable. It’s an athletic nylon like material (I’m sure it has an official name which I do not know) that will pack well and is so soft and easy for summer.
It’s got zip pockets and a flattering tulip hem.
I mean; what’s not to love?
I love it so much I snagged it in black and will be wearing it on repeat this summer in an attempt to curate my classic summer style.

At heart, I’m a basics kind of gal. When it comes to my clothes, I don’t like bells and whistles and I don’t love following trends. I much prefer classic styles that fit well and fit my lifestyle (casual and relaxed).
So for me, that means summer weight trousers in go-with-everything olive, the BEST Target tank I have in about 10 colors, a classic crossbody, Birkenstocks, and my trusty aviators.
I might never win a best dressed award, but I will for sure always feel just like ME when I’m out and about and that means more than anything.

Remember when I said I was obsessed with the linen button downs from Aerie?

I wasn’t lying.

Snagged it in white becuase I’m a white button down fanatic, and it will be on repeat all summer. The perfect weight and flow and my favorite part is the buttons line up perfectly to have the absolute best open to close ratio of the neck.

On Sundays I do nothing.
Well, that’s not true. I do lots of things, but none of them are glamorous. Most of them involve laundry (peel the unmade bed waiting for their clean sheets in the background), week prep, and house cleaning.
So my main goal is: COMFORT.
