Building a custom home taught me everything.
And not all of it was cute.

Here’s what I learned — no shade, but some shade:

1. Most men assume women don’t know nails, screws, or structure.
If you’re a woman building, establish your authority immediately.
Set expectations early — with every single sub.

2. Trust, but verify.
Men lie when they think you don’t know.
And when you catch it, suddenly you’re “difficult.”
Bad information leads to bad decisions — and very uncomfortable days on a job site.
And remember… this is my house. I have to live here.

3. If money allows, build it exactly how you want the first time.
This process is expensive — more than you think.
Never trust anyone’s numbers but your own.

4. Cheaper always exists.
The real question is: will you be happy with the result?
Ask why it’s cheaper. Every time.

5. Never feel bad for speaking up.
It’s your home.
They work for you.

I didn’t build this house to be quiet.
I built it my way.

Just remember not all subs are created equal.
Some bring craftsmanship.
Some bring excuses.
Only hire the exceptional ones.

Our kitchen is definitely the heart of our home 🤍🏡
